Back by popular demand, Pulitzer Prize finalist, avid equestrian, and author of Horse Crazy Sarah Maslin Nir will return to SPAC to lead a conversation with Pulitzer Prize winner and author Geraldine Brooks about her new book, Horse, a sweeping story of spirit, obsession, and injustice across American history.

Lake George, NY — Lake George Region Restaurant Week is back! The second week of this semi-annual event runs Sunday, September 11-Saturday, September 17, 2022.

This year, Taste NY at the Adirondacks Welcome Center is sponsoring the promotion with a “Restaurant Challenge” that tasks participating restaurants to create a prix-fixe menu that includes at least one ingredient that is grown or produced in New York State. Each participating restaurant will offer their special three-course menu for just $30. The ingredients grown or produced in New York will be highlighted on these special Restaurant Week menus.

(August 24, 2022) Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the preliminary design for a new gateway to Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Brooklyn. The park honors Marsha P. Johnson, a Transgender woman of color who was a pioneer of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement, born 77 years ago today. The gateway will cap a $16.5 million renovation project completed this summer.

(August 24, 2022) Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the Colored Musicians Club has begun an expansion and renovations that will allow for increased tourism and visitation to Buffalo's African American Heritage Corridor. Founded in 1918, the CMC is the only remaining African American musicians' club of its kind in the U.S. It has hosted performances by such notable artists as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nat "King" Cole, Miles Davis and Cab Calloway.

Marquette Wine Bottle Barrel and GlassFairport, N.Y. -- A partnership between Iron Smoke Distillery and Thousand Islands Winery has produced a limited-edition bourbon barrel-aged wine which is getting noticed by connoisseurs and recreational drinkers alike. The medium-bodied, red, dry table wine is made from premium marquette grapes and matures in bourbon-soaked barrels for six months before bottling. 

“Their barrels. Our grapes. The taste profiles really mix well,” said Steve Conaway, owner of Thousand Islands Winery. “No wonder you get a perfect blend when you take two legendary institutions, both grounded in locally-sourced, New York State grown ingredients –put them together --and let Mother Nature have her way.” …
