Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that Adirondack Mac will serve as the official mascot for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. The moose mascot was designed by Kristina Ingerowski, a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology and a native of Farmington, Ontario County. Adirondack Mac will be a highly visible symbol of the Games, which attract a global audience. Mac will appear in various forms including a live, costumed character; as merchandise including toys, stuffed animals, apparel and other souvenirs; and in promotional materials. The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games are scheduled for January 12-22, 2023. …

Saratoga Springs, NY – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces “Fall Flavor Fusion: A Five-Course Plant-Based Dinner” created by NYC-based chef and founder of Graffiti Earth Jehangir Mehta alongside Head Chef of Yaddo Michael Blake and curator Chef Kim Klopstock of The Lily and the Rose. Presented as part of “CulinaryArts@SPAC,” the festive autumn feast will feature plant-based courses juxtaposing temperatures, textures and tastes with flavors from all around the globe. The special event will be held in SPAC’s beautiful Nancy DiCresce Room in the new Pines@SPAC facility on Saturday, November 20 at 6 p.m. 

NYSEDExhibition on Loan from the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture

Albany, N.Y. – A new exhibition, Courage: The Black Struggle for Quality Education, is now open for the public to view at the New York State Museum, State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa announced today. The exhibition explores the visions and aspirations of courageous leaders and parents who have sought to equitably educate Black children. Developed by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, and on loan to the State Museum, the exhibition will be on view in the Museum’s Photography Gallery through June 2022.

Fort Ticonderoga$500,000 to support on-site and virtual accessibility and educational programs

Ticonderoga, N.Y. -- Fort Ticonderoga, a major cultural destination, museum, and National Historic Landmark located in New York’s 6-million-acre Adirondack Park has been awarded three individual prestigious grants totaling nearly $500,000.

The grants awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services; the National Endowment for the Humanities: Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan; and the American Battlefield Protection Program will provide vital funding to enhance on-site and digital accessibility,” said Beth L Hill, Fort Ticonderoga President and CEO.

American Airpower Museum - 9 Veterans at D.C. WWII MemorialFarmingdale, NY – American Airpower Museum will host an Honor Flight Long Island Reunion on December 4th, to celebrate Nine World War II era Veterans who took an early-morning flight to Washington, D.C. on October 3rd.  The Veterans visited their WWII Memorial, along with Arlington National Cemetery for the “Changing of the Guard,” plus a special Wreath Laying Ceremony.  They returned to Islip MacArthur Airport late that evening for a rousing welcome by the Long Island Bagpipe Band and their family members!…

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the start of construction on a $13 million outdoor entertainment pavilion on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The project will renovate the long-abandoned Terminal B warehouse into an events center that utilizes existing parking and reclaims seven acres of contaminated property to open additional public access with scenic new lake views. The project will also beautify the habitat with new trees, shrubs and meadow areas, and add diverse plants to support migrating and nesting birds. Construction is expected to be completed by Fall of 2023.

Tupper Lake, N.Y. – The Wild Center is excited to announce the return of Wild Lights, presented by Merrill L. Thomas, Inc. The dazzling display of enchanting lights will transform The Wild Center’s 115-acre campus into a winter wonderland, with even more dates, displays and lights added this season. Wild Lights will run on Friday and Saturday evenings beginning Sat., Nov. 27 for the public.

With Wild Lights, visitors will be able to bask in the glow of the award-winning Wild Walk and stroll through Forest Music while surrounded by immersive music and lights – curated specifically for the looped trail.
