A Drawing in Five PartsDecember 9, 2022–April 2, 2023

Yonkers, NY (November 18, 2022) — Frederick J. Brown (1945–2012) was a pioneering figure in New York City’s art scene of the 1970s and 1980s and developed groundbreaking approaches to abstraction, figurative expressionism, and portraiture. This exhibition features a series of five monumental works on paper titled The Actress: A Drawing in Five Parts, a recent gift to the Museum by American art collector Marilyn Gould. Frederick J. Brown: A Drawing in Five Parts was organized by the Hudson River Museum and will be on view from December 9, 2022 through April 2, 2023.

NYS Parks Recreation Historic PreservationYonkers, N.Y.  (11/18/22) – After being closed for 18 months, Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in downtown Yonkers has re-opened to the public. The site is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It will be closed for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, but will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday November 25, 26, and 27, 2022 for Thanksgiving weekend.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the start of the 2022-23 Alpine and Nordic skiing seasons with the opening of several Olympic Regional Development Authority-operated ski venues. The venues - which include Gore Mountain in North Creek, Belleayre Mount in Highmount, Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, and Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid - will open this month following investments in upgrades, renovations, and snowmaking infrastructure ahead of the winter season. In addition to supporting New York's $16 billion winter tourism industry, these improvements will support the upcoming Lake Placid 2023 FISU Winter World University Games, which will take place from January 12 to 22, 2023.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the reopening of Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in Yonkers after a $20 million renovation of the building and grounds, as well as the design of new exhibits. These new exhibits advance the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Our Whole History initiative, which is an effort to ensure that the state's historic sites embrace stories that reflect the diversity of our state and nation's history.

December 2–4, 2022

Astoria, New York, November 14, 2022 — Museum of the Moving Image will present a weekend-long, career-spanning retrospective December 2–4 showcasing eight of Polish director Paweł Łoziński’s nonfiction films, ranging from one of his earliest to his most recent, The Balcony Movie, with the filmmaker in person for all screenings. In addition to Łoziński’s own films, the series will include Father and Son (2013), his fascinating collaboration with his father, the Oscar-nominated Polish master Marcel Łoziński, as well as his father’s How It’s Done (2006). The program is co-presented with the Polish Cultural Institute in New York.
