ROOST - Adirondacks USALake Placid, NY (March 26, 2024) – The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has established a helpline in preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse to share information and answer questions that may arise in the days leading up to the event.

The dedicated phone line (518-621-3682) is available through April 8, staffed by a team of ROOST employees who will be on hand to answer questions regarding events, viewing locations, safety considerations, parking and other questions that may arise.

State Parks Across New York and NASA to Hold Events on April 8 and Weeks Leading Up to the Event 

Two weeks ahead of the April 8 eclipse, Governor Kathy Hochul today updated New Yorkers on the state’s preparations to ensure everyone can have a safe and memorable viewing experience. In October 2022, Governor Hochul convened an Interagency Task Force comprised of nearly two dozen state agencies and authorities. The Task Force has been collaborating for the past 17 months on plans to ensure everyone can safely enjoy the eclipse. New York State is expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors, and Governor Hochul is reminding travelers of several tips to ensure the smoothest possible experience for everyone.

Governor Kathy Hochul today launched a statewide effort to protect New Yorkers ahead of the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8. The effort includes statewide distribution of limited-edition I LOVE NY eclipse glasses at 30 locations throughout the state – including New York State Welcome Centers and select service areas along the NYS Thruway – as well as a reminder for stargazers to be wary of scams, fake merchandise and phony accommodation listings. In addition, the Governor expanded an I LOVE NY campaign to urge New Yorkers to take proper safety precautions during the eclipse. Today’s announcement builds on previous actions to prepare the state, as well as New York stargazers, for the once-in-a-generation celestial event.

Hornell Solar eclipse PosterHornell, N.Y. – Hornell NY is directly in the path of the April 8th, 2024 Eclipse, while Hornell is not in totality, we will see a deep partial meaning that the sun will be blocked at 99.74%, and will 100% need glasses to view safely.  The best way to get glasses is to attend the Solar Event at Shawmut Park in Hornell hosted by the Friends of the Hornell Public Library and its sponsors.  Thanks to grants to the Hornell Library, and donations from NASA, Explore Steuben, and other agencies.  Additionally, every student from the Hornell School District will be getting glasses sent home with them the day of the eclipse.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced New York State Parks and Historic Sites will host a range of events and activities to celebrate the rare total solar eclipse passing through Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and the Adirondacks on April 8, 2024. This cosmic event happens once every 400 years in the same location. Events will be held both where the eclipse will be fully visible across a narrow route, referred to as the path of totality, and where visitors can experience a rare partial eclipse throughout the rest of the state. …
