Tim DavisArtist marks release of Opener Series book with talk, performance on Tang’s Instagram account, Aug. 11 7pm

Saratoga Springs, NY (August 4, 2020) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College invites the public to an online celebration of the new publication Opener 31: Tim Davis – When We Are Dancing (I Get Ideas) on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. on the Tang Instagram account. 

The event will feature a conversation between artist, writer, and musician Tim Davis and Rachel Seligman, the book’s editor and the Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs and Malloy Curator at the Tang. Davis, who will be on the front porch of his upstate New York home, will also have perform some original songs.

Saratoga Springs, NY (August 5, 2020) – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces the continuation of SPAC REIMAGINED with a virtual Beethoven 2020 festival, which will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. Highlighting the virtual festival are special events including an exclusive Beethoven recital with pianist JONATHAN BISS (AUG 21), the World Premiere of TESTAMENT (AUG 22), a theatrical production in collaboration with Saratoga Shakespeare Company, and a Caffè Lena "Stay Home Sessions" concert with Philadelphia Orchestra musicians (AUG 15). Launching on August 5, what would have been opening night of The Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC, is the Beethoven 2020 virtual platform featuring recordings of all nine Beethoven Symphonies, a lecture series on the Beethoven String Quartets by Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) and additional curated content available for the month of August for free at SPACBeethoven.org.

Saratoga Springs, NY (July 22, 2020) – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces that "Caffè Lena @ SPACwill return to premiere a special, limited screening of 'Mavis 80, A Newport Folk Revival' on the SPAC Grounds on July 31 at 8 p.m. The broadcast, which was previously recorded live in Los Angeles at The Theatre At Ace Hotel on May 22, 2019, is exclusive to Newport Folk Festival and "Caffe Lena @ SPAC." The SPAC lawn is the only place where the concert will be streamed in person, with a limited capacity of only 50 people, and with carefully mapped out, socially-distanced seating and rigorous COVID protocols.

Sunny RaSaratoga Springs, NY (July 21, 2020) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College has received a $1.5 million grant from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund. The grant will build the Tang’s endowment and expand K-12 and community educational programming throughout the region and beyond.

Skidmore President Marc Conner announced the grant stating: “The mission of the Tang Teaching Museum embodies the liberal arts educational ideal, especially in its outreach to multiple communities and its educational thrust. This support from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund will substantially support and grow that mission. We could not be more grateful for this gift.”…

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the grand reopening of the historic Roosevelt II Bathhouse at Saratoga Spa State Park. First opened in 1935 by former New York governor and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the iconic Georgian Revival-style bathhouse has been closed since falling into disuse in the 1980s. The bathhouse's reopening is part of a $2.3 million transformational project that is restoring and improving upon the grandeur of the Roosevelt Baths.

Saratoga Springs, NY (July 16, 2020) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College invites the public to a special online book launch for Liz Collins — Energy Field on Friday, July 24, at 4:00 PM. The event will be conducted on Zoom.

Collins is an artist known for exploring the boundaries between performance, textiles, and installation, creating vibrating fields bursting with color, shape, and texture. Liz Collins — Energy Field documents the artist’s two-year exhibition of the same name at the Tang Teaching Museum, in which she incorporated these elements and transformed the Tang mezzanine into a lounge and space for social gatherings.

National Museum of Racing and Hall of FameSaratoga Springs, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will present a summer virtual children’s program series beginning Thursday, July 16, geared toward ages 3 through 8. These free online programs will be prerecorded and posted to the Museum’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NMRHOF each week for families to experience at their convenience. A new program will be posted every Thursday through Aug. 27. This week’s program, “Get Ready for the Races,” focuses on fun facts for children about the role of jockeys. There will also be opportunities for children to draw their own racing silks on a downloadable coloring sheet.

Saratoga WinerySaratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) will host a re-imagined “TRF BBQ at the Barn” summer fundraiser on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at The Saratoga Winery.  This year’s BBQ will be carry-out with a twist!

Guests will drive thru the grounds to enjoy a TRF “Experience” with miniature ponies, racing celebrities, goodies for the kids, and a special appearance by Joey, the TRF Herd Ambassador, who will be returning to Saratoga from the TRF Second Chances Program at Wallkill.  The event will feature BBQ from Barnsider BBQ in Lake George; a TRF Specialty cocktail created by the Winery; and locally made pies from Mourningkill Bake Shop.  Items will be individually ordered online for carryout (only). Proceeds from the event will benefit the hundreds of TRF horses in the organization’s national herd.

SPAC - 2020Video Series Featuring All Three Resident Companies: New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center 

SPAC will release new videos from July 14- July 25 on social media and its website for a virtual "Ballet Month," coinciding with NYCB's previously scheduled residency 

Saratoga Springs, NY (July 13, 2020) – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces "SPAC REIMAGINED," a series of unique, locally-shot dance videos that pay tribute to the 2020 classical season and feature all three of SPAC's resident companies. Created by videographers and NYCB dancers, Emily Kikta and Peter Walker, the project combines the talents of seven dancers and four choreographers from New York City Ballet, alongside music performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra and The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The videos will be released starting on Tuesday, 7/14, the previously scheduled date of New York City Ballet's Opening Night, and will culminate with a longer-form, exclusive performance on Saturday, 7/25.

SPAC - 2020Tai Chi and Guided Meditation Classes offered as part of a larger initiative to enrich the Saratoga Spa State Park as a destination for the healing arts 

Saratoga Springs, NY – Saratoga Performing Arts Center and COESA announced that they will partner to present a series of health and wellness events on the SPAC grounds in the Saratoga Spa State Park including Tai Chi classes instructed by Mark Tolstrup of the Tai Chi Center (July 7-28) and Guided Meditation led by Pierre Zimmerman of One Roof Saratoga (July 12-August 30). The classes are part of a larger initiative to create opportunities for the community to safely gather. Wellness teachers and their students will be able to meet in person once again in a controlled, socially-distanced way.  And all proceeds will go directly to the teachers.
