Bethel Woods Augmented RealityImmersive tour NOW OPEN to the public

Bethel, NY (August 31, 2020) – The Museum at Bethel Woods, located at the National Register historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, today announced a new augmented reality tour, Meet Me at Woodstock.  The immersive tour gives guests the chance to experience the history of the festival first-hand as they listen to stories of those who were there, visualize the iconic stage, hear concert recordings and authentic announcements, and survey the grounds as a member of the 450,000 person crowd.

Catskills Folk ConnectionEast Meredith, N.Y. – Catskills Folk Connection will present an exhibit of local artists, “Folk Art in Wood,” on view by reservation at Hanford Mills Museum from Wednesday, September 2 through October 15. The exhibit features artists who work with wood in a wide variety of ways.

Joe Dibble carves decoys of water birds such as swans, geese, and ducks, plus wood carvings of trout and land birds. Gary Mead creates one-of-a-kind furniture from carefully selected wood, some of which he harvests and mills specifically for his projects. Kira Lendo creates pictures on wood, drawing wildlife and Catskills scenes with a wood burner. Joe Hewitt and Ken Etts know the secret of the “whistle stick”, a folk toy they make out of a notched stick and a small propeller, which reverses direction when they whistle.

Bethel Woods Harvest FestivalPlus, two more Harvest dates added; Wine and Craft Beer Festivals postponed to 2021

Bethel, NY – Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, located at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, today announced the return of its annual Harvest Festival Farmers Market.  Now in its 22nd year, the farmers market will take place every Sunday for seven consecutive weeks – beginning August 30th and continuing through October 11th.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced the completion of improvements to the Kenneth L. Wilson Campground and Day Use Area in Ulster County. Updates to the campground's shower house and three comfort stations, which include several accessible features to make camping fun for people of all abilities, will help connect more New Yorkers to the outdoors and reduce the facility’s environmental footprint.

Hanford Mills MuseumVisitors can call ahead to reserve a guided tour of the water-powered sawmill, gristmill, and woodworking shop

East Meredith, NY – Beginning August 12, Hanford Mills Museum will be open for guided tours of its water-powered sawmill, gristmill, and woodworking shop. Tours will be offered Wednesdays through Sundays and feature demonstrations of the 1926 Fitz overshot waterwheel and water-powered machines operating just as they did a century ago. To promote social distancing, reservations are required and only one party will tour the Mill at a time. To schedule a tour, call 607/278-5744.

Bethel, N.Y. – Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, located at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, today announced a virtual gallery titled “Captured at a Distance.” The exhibit is the culminating project of teen participants in the Center’s Project: Identity Photography program. “Captured at a Distance” offers a glimpse into the lives of students before and during social distancing practices and stay-at-home mandates.

Dr. Hitch is a historian, preservation architect, museum specialist, and musician who has been working for over 25 years in developing historic sites and museums. He comes to the historic site after a national search led by Arts Consulting Group.

 Before joining Bethel Woods in January, Dr. Hitch worked in several premier destinations, serving as director of museums in the Caribbean, Hawaiʻi, Alaska, and on the border of Mexico in California. For the last decade, he has also been working within the design collective i/thee leading art and architecture camps and designing large-scale inhabitable artworks.
