Authors Hour Final Writers WorkshopNorwich, N.Y. – On Oct. 5, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will host the final session of the “Writer’s Workshop” series, an extension of Author’s Hour programming being held in collaboration with Guernsey Memorial Library this year.

Beginning at 1 p.m. in the Otis A. Thompson Local History Room, authors of all ages and skill-levels are invited to discover new techniques for historical research and writing.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the opening of a new 2.5-mile bicycle and pedestrian Greenway along the south side of State Route 434 Vestal Parkway in Broome County that provides new opportunities for recreation and environmentally friendly transportation in the Town of Vestal, City of Binghamton, and across the Southern Tier.

Arts Council, local artisans, tasty food, and a silent auction.   Enjoy some high energy romping and stomping. Ron Bruschi, a Zydeco Dance Instructor will be available for lessons.

Many people do not realize that Utica once had a thriving shoe manufacturing industry, producing as many as two thousand pairs daily. Chenango County - PTH June 2023Norwich, N.Y. – The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will again participate in the semi-annual state-wide festivities known as Path Through History weekend on June 18. As part of the celebration, the museum is hosting special open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

The 11th issue of the Journal of the Chenango County Historical Society will make its debut in the museum shop during this time. The publication, a CCHS tradition since the summer of 2012, features a wide variety of scholarly articles highlighting the unique history of Chenango County. Topics in this year’s issue include “Roy Rogers, King of the Cowboys and the Norwich Knitting Mill” and “Every Bride Needs to Carry a Handkerchief,” among many others.

Peterboro, N.Y. – The Hamlet of Peterboro NY will open its three day Peterboro Freedom Festival: Juneteenth Weekend on Saturday, June 17th at 2 pm at the Smithfield Community Center, 5255 Pleasant Valley Road, Peterboro NY 13134 with Authors for Freedom. Karol Kucinski, Co-Chair NAHOF Hall and Museum Committee, will introduce the four writers and their books which are at various stages of publication and which have connections to Peterboro and to the quest for freedom.

Utica, N.Y. – Dive into Oneida Lake and Sylvan Beach history with author and local expert Jack Henke who will talk about "The Beach" during its heyday, sharing fun facts and photos from the past. Henke is the author of four books about Oneida Lake history, including From “The Beach” to Brewerton: Stories of Oneida Lake, and Oneida Lake: “The Only Happiness” Place Names and History.

Utica, N.Y. - Utica has a long and rich history of brewing ale and beer. From the 1790s to today, there have been over forty breweries active in the city. Owners and names changed often, but the city supported the industry with breweries that lasted a year or two to some in operation for a century or more.

Cooperstown Summer Music Festival 25thCooperstown, N.Y. (May 23, 2023) -  The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival has announced the concert lineup for its 25th anniversary season, revealing a season built around artists appealing to a diverse array of musical tastes. 

“Our new season features an impressive collection of performances that will bring best-in-class artists in a wide variety of genres to perform for audiences in Cooperstown,” says Festival Founder and Artistic Director Linda Chesis.
