His unexpected presence at Bagg’s Hotel caused a stir among the locals. Join us for Mr. Dickens Comes to Utica, a documentary created by local filmmaker Dennis Dewey, that shares this exciting story.

Utica, N.Y. -- Ruthie Deeply, by local writer Vincent Palmieri, shares the true-life story of Ruth Morgan. She faced challenging circumstances after being abandoned in East Utica in 1934, including homelessness and being forced into the Syracuse State School. She remained steadfast in her belief to be released and achieved her goal, and is currently alive and well at 87 years old in Herkimer County.

A large selection, including some from the Proctor family, will be on display throughout the month of February in this pop-up exhibit. What’s not to love about these seasonal favorites? The collection spans the 1880s through the 1930s and contains a sampling of the “Golden Age” of valentines.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the grand opening of the $64 million Nexus Center in downtown Utica. The announcement comes in advance of a ceremonial "puck drop" to be held later this evening by local officials. Thanks to state support, which includes $22 million through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, the 170,000 square-foot tournament-based recreation and sporting complex will be utilized for ice hockey, box lacrosse, soccer and other field sports, and will draw competitive youth teams from across the U.S. and Canada.

This hour-long presentation covers the history of central New York’s regional airline, from the early years as Robinson Airline through to its demise in the early 1970s. This program is free and open to the public.

Archaeology Uncovers: Canal Locks and Privies
Utica, N.Y. – The Chenango Canal was built between 1833-36 and connected Binghamton to Utica. It closed in 1878 due to competition from the railroads. Archaeological projects completed by the New York State Museum Cultural Resource Survey Program have uncovered remnants of original canal locks, sluiceways, and three residential privies. Archaeologist David Staley will share recent discoveries at the Oneida County History Center, Saturday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.
