Schweinfurth Spring Break Art CampAuburn, NY (March 27, 2024) – Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn is accepting registrations for its Spring Break Art Camp for teens, “There’s Been a Mixup.” A separate morning camp for students 6 to 10 is full. Campers will explore the work of artists Aminah Robinson, Sanford Biggers, Charles McGee, Sheila Hicks, and Madam Mavis from Ghana Africa’s Global Mamas, and use those artists’ creations as inspiration for their own art. Students will experiment with batik, quilting, weaving, hand sewing, and painting, and embellish their work with beads, buttons, and found objects.

Maple Sugaring Festival at GCV&MMumford, N.Y. – In celebration of the return of maple sugaring season in New York State, Genesee Country Village & Museum will host its annual Maple Sugar Festival on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, March 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24.

Visitors are invited to explore the Museum’s modern-day sugarhouse where fresh syrup will be boiling, then journey into a 19th-century sugar camp staffed by costumed historical educators to learn about the techniques and tools used by early settlers used to collect sap and make maple sugar.

The living history museum will experience 3 minutes and 32 seconds of totality, and offers a limited number of visitors the once-in-a-century opportunity to experience totality in a 19th-century Historic Village.

Hornell Solar eclipse PosterHornell, N.Y. – Hornell NY is directly in the path of the April 8th, 2024 Eclipse, while Hornell is not in totality, we will see a deep partial meaning that the sun will be blocked at 99.74%, and will 100% need glasses to view safely.  The best way to get glasses is to attend the Solar Event at Shawmut Park in Hornell hosted by the Friends of the Hornell Public Library and its sponsors.  Thanks to grants to the Hornell Library, and donations from NASA, Explore Steuben, and other agencies.  Additionally, every student from the Hornell School District will be getting glasses sent home with them the day of the eclipse.

Eric Shute - Camp Laundry - ADK NYAuburn, NY – You can usually find Marcellus artist Eric Shute outdoors, painting with his watercolors. “I am most often attracted to natural motifs: rock ledges, trees, streams, and waterfalls; partly because I love painting outdoors but also because I am fascinated by the effects of sunlight on the objects,” he said.

The artworks included in his solo exhibition, “The Way I See It: Finding Beauty in Unexpected Places,” all depict objects in nature. The exhibit of watercolor paintings opens March 23, 2024, at Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, and runs through April 27.
