Fiber Arts Weekend - Farmers' MuseumThis year’s weekend focuses on the traditional process of natural dyeing of fibers.

Visitors will find weaving, spinning, knitting, quilting, and other textile related activities.

Cooperstown, NY —  Fiber Arts Weekend returns to The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 & 25 from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.  Visitors will find a variety of exhibits, vendors, and hands-on activities featuring wool carding, spinning, weaving, quilting, knitting, “cranking” (sock machine demos), and other textile-related activities. This year’s weekend focuses on the traditional process of natural dyeing of fibers.

Fall Fiber WorkshopsAuburn, NY (Aug. 13, 2024) – Schweinfurth Art Center has lined up several multi-day fiber workshops this fall that focus on surface design, recycling clothes, and felting. One 5-day workshop is online, and the rest are in person at the art center, 205 Genesee St., Auburn, NY.

Schweinfurth Printed Textiles ExhibitAuburn, NY (Aug. 7, 2024) – This fall, Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY, will display a nationally significant exhibit that highlights the practice of printing on textiles in the exhibit “Beyond the Surface: Contemporary Artists and Printed Textiles.”

It is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on printed textiles since the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery’s 1978 exhibition “Printed, Painted, and Dyed: The New Fabric Surface.” …

Astoria, NY — One of the most exciting and inspiring filmmakers to emerge so far this century, director and novelist Pema Tseden (1969–2023) revolutionized Tibetan representation in Chinese cinema, creating unprecedented films that combine standardized narrative forms with Tibetan culture and language. Museum of the Moving Image will celebrate Pema Tseden, who died last year in mid-career at age 53, with a complete retrospective of his films from September 6–15.
