Finger Lakes Region Encourages Locals to Take a "Staycation"

Regional Tourism Council releases list of family-focused activities to enjoy during school break week

Pittsford, N.Y. - As families prepare for the upcoming school break, the Finger Lakes Region is encouraging locals to take a vacation - in their own backyard. The Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council (FLRTC), the official promotion organization for the 14-county Finger Lakes Region, has released a list of activities, specials, and events taking place during February Break. Their goal is to remind those living locally that they don't have to travel to enjoy a vast range of family-friendly activities, and to encourage families to use the time off to get out and explore more of the region they call home.

5th Annual Champlain Canalway Bike Tour Set for August 14

Schuylerville, N.Y. - The 5th annual Champlain Canalway Trail Bicycle Tour, a one-day exploration of historic sites along the Hudson River/ Champlain Canal corridor, will take place on Sunday, August 14. In honor of the National Park Service Centennial and Canal Splash, this year's tour will begin at Hudson Crossing Park near Lock 5 just north of Schuylerville.   It will then proceed through villages and country-sides to Saratoga National Historical Park, with stops at selected significant historical landmarks related to the Revolutionary War campaign of 1777. Expert historians at each stop will introduce cyclists to local historical events that led to the Battles of Saratoga and changed the course of the war!

Albany, NY (November 30, 2015) - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that the I LOVE NEW YORK Winter Ski Bus will begin weekly trips from New York City to upstate ski areas on January 22. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the bus will offer downstate skiers and riders day trips to Hunter, Plattekill and Belleayre mountains. Additionally, I LOVE NEW YORK has partnered with popular outfitter REI to further spread the word about the outdoor adventures that the State has to offer.
