Lake Placid, NY (April 15, 2024) – The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has reviewed and calculated the estimated direct spend of Essex County overnight visitation during the total solar eclipse. Initial estimates are valued at more than $2.7 million.

Governor Kathy Hochul today provided updated viewing location information for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, and offered additional resources to those who are planning to view the eclipse on Monday. Unsafe winter conditions are expected in the Adirondack backcountry during and after this week’s storm, with upwards of 18 inches of snow in high elevations, as well as mixed precipitation with ice accumulations and high winds. When combined with wet, heavy snow, strong and gusty winds have the potential to down large tree limbs and smaller trees, with power outages already reported. The accumulation of additional snow will add to the four feet of snowpack that currently exists at high elevations today.

Wild Center logoTupper Lake, N.Y. - To celebrate the Apr. 8 total solar eclipse, The Wild Center will open its 115-acre campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Apr. 6-8 for a weekend of eclipse themed activities. Highlights of the event include glass blowing demonstrations from The Corning Museum of Glass Mobile Hot Shop, commemorative eclipse tattoos from Plain Jane Tattoos, solar-powered maple tastings and tours, and more!…

ROOST - Adirondacks USALake Placid, NY (March 26, 2024) – The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has established a helpline in preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse to share information and answer questions that may arise in the days leading up to the event.

The dedicated phone line (518-621-3682) is available through April 8, staffed by a team of ROOST employees who will be on hand to answer questions regarding events, viewing locations, safety considerations, parking and other questions that may arise.

ROOST - Adirondacks USALake Placid, NY (March 14, 2024) – The Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024 with a newly-developed website and a series of events throughout the summer and fall. The Northville-Placid Trail was formed in 1922 as one of the Adirondack Mountain Club’s first projects. Completed in 1924, this 138-mile route transverses the Adirondack Park, from the town of Northville to Lake Placid. 

To celebrate the 100-year anniversary, organizers are planning community events throughout the year along the trail route.

Long Lake - Raquette LakeLong Lake, N.Y. – On Saturday, March 16th from 12:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department will host a Celtic Ceilidh (prounced kay-lee) at the Long Lake Town Hall located at 1204 Main St. in Long Lake NY.
