Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of a $104 million renovation of the Lake Placid Olympic Center ahead of the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, which will take place from January 12-22, 2023. The renovations, completed by the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority, include upgrades to the Olympic Center's year-round facilities, as well as an all-new retail shop, indoor and outdoor dining area, and a fully updated Lake Placid Olympic Museum, which will open tomorrow, Thursday, December 8. Together, these upgrades mark the completion of final preparations for the Games and will support future winter sporting events in Lake Placid. …

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the start of the 2022-23 Alpine and Nordic skiing seasons with the opening of several Olympic Regional Development Authority-operated ski venues. The venues - which include Gore Mountain in North Creek, Belleayre Mount in Highmount, Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, and Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid - will open this month following investments in upgrades, renovations, and snowmaking infrastructure ahead of the winter season. In addition to supporting New York's $16 billion winter tourism industry, these improvements will support the upcoming Lake Placid 2023 FISU Winter World University Games, which will take place from January 12 to 22, 2023.

Biathlon StadiumMt Van Hoevenberg Modernization Draws International Attention 

Lake Placid, NY – The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announces that it has been awarded the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup for 2026. The new IBU Executive Board met in Salzburg this past week, and the full calendar for the IBU Cup was confirmed for the seasons 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 based on recommendations by the IBU’s Technical Committee. FIS Inspector John Aalberg and IBU officials visited and inspected the Mt Van Hoevenberg facilities this past summer. The dates of February 24-March 1, and March 3-8 were confirmed for Lake Placid (USA). …

Team USA athletes to begin the next Olympic cycle in North America  

Lake Placid, NY – The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announces that Mt Van Hoevenberg will host athletes from around the world at four major International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) competitions in November and December 2022. The IBSF World Cup in Bobsled and Skeleton is returning to North America for the first time since 2019, allowing Team USA athletes to begin the next Olympic cycle with several competitions with home-field advantage.

Lake Placid, N.Y. – The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) is thrilled to host the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Super Tour/New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Eastern Cup at Mt. Van Hoevenberg this Saturday & Sunday, January 29th & 30th. The Super Tour will gather approximately 400 of the nation’s top cross-country ski athletes to race on the new competition trails each day, and it will be the largest event staged at the facility since its recent modernizations. This Super Tour also serves as a test event for the FISU World University Games, which will take place January 12-22, 2023.

Holiday Valley Mardi Gras ChairliftEllicottville, NY – With an eye on the future, Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, NY is planning construction a 6-passenger chairlift starting in the summer of 2022, with completion of the lift in September 2023. The new lift will replace the Mardi Gras Express, a 4 passenger high speed lift built in 1996 that runs up through the heart of the resort. According to Holiday Valley’s President and General Manager, Dennis Eshbaugh, “The Holiday Valley lift system has been recognized by our guests as one of the best in the East. The Yodeler Quad Express lift built in 2021 raised the bar. The Mardi Gras 6-pack will give skiers and snowboarders an exciting new experience, with quicker access to the top of the mountain.”…
