Jamesville, NY (November 29, 2021) – SKI/NY, a New York State-based organization that promotes skiing to first-time and life-long skiers and riders, saw an incredible increase in ski ticket sales in 2020/21 – and hopes to keep the momentum going this ski season.

During the winter of 2020/21, ski areas in New York State marshalled to provide safe socially distancing guidelines to keep customers safe and on the slopes. Overall, ski areas across the state saw an additional 300,000 skier and rider visits to its ski areas, a 27% increase over the previous season’s numbers. This increase represented a total of four million visits, putting New York State third in the nation for overall skier visits behind Colorado and California. From a tourism economics view, the ski industry and supporting hospitality services represent 14,000 jobs in New York State alone.

North Elba, NY - The Town of North Elba will enter a long-term lease agreement with the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) for their use of the former Lake Placid Memorial Hospital property. The Town took over ownership of this property in 2019; this ownership will be retained and ORDA will lease the site for 50 years with a 50-year renewal for the purpose of expanding the Training Center. ORDA will be responsible for the removal of the current structure, relieving the town of the financial burden of this undertaking, while upgrading the property to enhance the sports industry in the region.

Snow RidgeTurin, NY – Snow Ridge Ski Resort held a soft opening of its tubing last weekend while mother nature delivered a blanket of much anticipated lake effect snow.

The Tubing Park will be open on Weekends and Holidays. Two-hour tickets will be available from 10 am – 12 pm, 12 – 2 pm, and 2 – 4 pm and there is a height of at least 42 inches required to ride.

“We’re thrilled to add another fun winter activity that the whole family can enjoy! The installation of our new carpet lift has not only proven to be an incredibly useful tool for beginner skiers and boarders but has also allowed us to create the all new tubing park. Sledders Reminded To Use COVID-19 Safety Measures at Trailheads, During Breaks

At the start of snowmobiling season, New York State urges riders to keep safety in mind, both when operating and during any breaks with fellow riders.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, snowmobile safety courses continue to be offered. Successful completion of this course, results in the issuance of a NYS Snowmobile Safety Certificate.

This certificate is required for youth between ages 10 and 18 to operate a snowmobile, but all riders can benefit from taking a course that provides fundamental information which all should possess to ensure the safety of both rider and other trail users.
