Thousand Islands - Seaway Region, N.Y. - The Thousand Islands was named Wednesday as having the "Best U.S. Boat Ride" in an online competition hosted by 10 Best, a division of USA Today Travel.

Online readers of USA Today and 10 Best picked the region over 19 finalists selected by the 10 Best editorial board. 10 Best provides USA Today Travel readers with original content about vacation destinations from a network of writers.

In their quest to find the best boat ride, 10 Best editors' wrote:

"There are lots of iconic water-based experiences in this country, more than ever we realized when the 10Best editorial team sat down to choose the nominees for this contest. You can vote daily for your favorite . . . and if you're looking for a summer bucket list, there might not be a better one!"

In its description of the Thousand Islands, 10 Best wrote not only about boat touring on the New York side of the region but also some of the top water-based attractions in southeastern Ontario:

"New York's Thousand Islands region seems made with nautical tourism in mind. Glass-topped catamarans, triple-decker cruise boats and majestic paddlewheelers ply the waters, taking visitors past Boldt Castle and the mansions of Millionaire Row, Kingston Penitentiary and Fort Henry, all while offering interesting insight into the history of this scenic destination."

Niagara Falls was first runner-up, giving New York the top two spots and highlighting the great outdoor recreational opportunities available in the state. New York Harbor tours were also a finalist.

"This is recognition of what our visitors, seasonal and full-time residents know: the Thousand Islands offers an unparalleled experience of castles, lighthouses, island mansions, wildlife, tales of pirates and bootlegging and so much more," said Corey Fram, communications manager for the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council.\
