1000-islands-intl-tourism-council.JPGWellesley Island, N.Y. - Smartphone users now have instant access to the 1000 Islands with a free app available at the Apple App Store and iTunes. The app - the first of its kind for the Thousand Islands region of Northern New York and Southeastern Ontario - provides quick and easy access to attractions, recreational activities, events, lodging, marinas, golf courses, fishing guides and more. The app lets users find the nearest attractions, lodging options and more thanks to a built-in mapping program and new AR technology that shows users the direction and distance - in real time - of attractions, hotels, cottages, golf courses and more. The app provides instant editorial content, single-touch calling and web access to more than 1,000 businesses compiled in the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council's (TIITC) database.  The app includes tourism businesses in New York communities including Henderson Harbor, Sackets Harbor, Cape Vincent, Clayton, Alexandria Bay, Watertown and others. Ontario listings come from Kingston, Gananoque, Brockville, Prescott, Morrisburg, Cornwall and more. "It's taken years to compile our database and now it's instantly available on someone's smartphone," said Gary DeYoung, TIITC tourism director. "This takes out a lot of the guess work of ‘where's the boat line dock' or ‘what's going on this weekend.'" View the app on iTunes here or search "1000 Islands" on your iPhone to download. TIITC is currently working toward making the app available on other platforms.
