I LOVE NEW YORK Invites Travelers to “Enlighten, Harvest, Explore”

NEW YORK, September 19, 2008 - I LOVE NEW YORK (www.iloveny.com), New York State’s tourism promotion agency, has partnered with more than 100 lodging properties across the entire Empire State to offer Fall Getaway Packages starting at $89 per night and more than 20 gas-related incentives.  Consumers feeling the pinch of current economic times will find value-minded vacation packages making it possible for anyone in need of a break to get away in New York State this fall.  The special promotion is running now through November 15 and may be planned by visiting www.iloveny.com/fall.

Value packages and driving tours will focus on the themes of “Enlighten, Harvest, and Explore,” designed to highlight the rich culture and historic attractions throughout the State, emphasize the State’s culinary offerings from  farm-fresh meals to award-winning wines, and discover the wealth of the State’s outdoor recreational offerings.

“Travel and tourism continue to be driving forces for economic growth in New York State,” said ESD CEO & President Marisa Lago.  “Given the current economic climate, people are understandably cautious in making travel decisions.  So, we are especially happy to be able to offer these fall value-packages that New Yorkers and tourists alike can take advantage of.”

Travelers can visit www.iloveny.com/fall to discover driving tours that highlight routes with things to see and do along the way including listings of scenic vistas compiled for premium leaf-peeping opportunities.  Those planning a trip to New York State will be able to search the site by the region, theme, or keyword to return results for packages, driving tours and fall related “things to do.”  The navigation bar will include a link to the weekly foliage report page and a link to create a personal travel guide online.

According to Thomas Ranese, chief marketing officer of I LOVE NEW YORK, the State is seeking to appeal to consumers’ desire for a nearby, fun and affordable vacation destination.  "It's no secret that today's traveler is more value-conscious than ever.  Our statewide fall promotion is designed specifically to meet those needs, but also highlight the fact that we offer a quintessential seasonal experience combining culture, culinary and the unmatched beauty of our scenic foliage."

Vacationers can choose from a range of offerings, including rustic cabins, Victorian bed and breakfasts, world-class hotels and family lodges. Many properties are also offering packages with local attractions and dining values.

Dan Murphy, president of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, said, “Gas prices were at their worst during the summer, visitation to New York State was still strong during those months, confirming our expectations that the economy has forced people to reevaluate their travel choices and consider New York State as a vacation destination.  With gas prices beginning to decline, we’re confident that the fall travel season will continue to bring more visitors to New York State.”
