New Magic Carpet Surface Lift Now Open At Bristol Mountain
In Canandaigua, Bristol Mountain Winter Resort’s newest lift, the Lunar Launch Magic Carpet conveyor type surface lift is now open. The new lift’s conveyor belt technology has become a snow sports industry standard as it provides beginner skiers and riders easy, user friendly access to the slopes, no matter what their age.
The new lift, which is 400 feet long and has a thirty inch wide belt that glides along flush with the surface of the snow, can transport up to 1,500 riders per hour. The new lift replaces the resort’s Mighty Mite rope tow surface lift on the Launching Pad learning area which is located at the south end of the base area of the mountain. The BigAirBag has arrived at Windham!
Are you ready to fly? Windham Mountain’s BigAirBag (www.bigairbag.com), a training tool for skiers and riders, is a huge air-filled pad which cushions the landing for aerial maneuvers. Windham Mountain is the sole distributor of this product, manufactured in the Netherlands, in the United States.
Measuring 56 feet long by 33 feet wide, the inflatable compression bag is situated near the halfpipe, where skiers and riders have easy access and visibility. Made of a heavy gauge nylon, the black and yellow double-compartmentalized bag refills every 10 seconds to allow for a constant flow of traffic.
The BigAirBag is a great benefit for Windham's freestyle skiing and snowboard programs, allowing athletes who are ready to perfect their routines to land safely on the bag. Prior to using the bag, athletes are required to view a short video on the proper use of the bag. Once out on the snow, the skier or rider goes off a kicker jump, performing the desired aerial maneuver, and then lands on the BigAirBag, sliding easily off onto the snow.
Windham Mountain, located in the northern Catskills town of Windham, is just 2.5 hours from New York City. It’s a family-friendly winter resort offering skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and many other winter activities. For more information, call (800) 754-9463 or visit www.windhammountain.com.
