Freaky Friday and the Saturday Night Ice Shows Also Begin this Weekend Wilmington, N.Y. --- Whether it's mountain biking, disc golf or a scenic gondola ride, it's all available beginning this Friday, June 18, at Whiteface, in Wilmington, N.Y. In the summer, Whiteface doesn't just hibernate and dream of those deep powder days. Beginning Friday, the eight-person Cloudsplitter Gondola will reopen for the summer and carry passengers from the Main Base Lodge to the top of Little Whiteface. At the summit of Little Whiteface an observation deck and picnic area awaits, as well as breathtaking views of the Adirondack high peaks, Lake Champlain to the east, and even Canada to the north. The cost is $18 for adults and juniors (ages 7-12) and seniors (ages 65+) are $13. The Whiteface Mountain Bike Park opens for the summer and fall season Friday for a bonus weekend. Riders will have the chance to experience 27 of Whiteface's mountain bike trails or ride the cross country flume trails from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Bikers access the trails by using the Cloudsplitter Gondola or the mountain bike park bus. Every weekend, at 11:30 a.m., there will be a free guided tour of the upper mountain, while at 3:30 p.m. each day; everyone is invited to participate in the traditional end of the day group ride. Adult daily tickets are $35, while children, 12 and under, can ride for just $24. In its second season, the nine-hole disc golf course follows some of the Olympic mountain's favorite trails including Mixing Bowl, Wolf, Boreen, Round About and Lower Valley, while starting and finishing at the Facelift. Disc golf is easy to play and fun for everyone. Players use flying discs instead of clubs and balls to go from the tee box to the hole, usually a metal chain basket of some sort. The object of the game is the same as golf- complete each hole with as few strokes, or in this case, throws as possible. Disc golf runs daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is $5 per person, per nine holes and disc is included. There's also plenty going on at the Olympic Center. The first Freaky Friday ice skating show of the season and the summer's opening Saturday night ice skating shows are also slated to begin this weekend. This Friday's Freaky Friday ice show is a fun, entertainment-based competition where skaters get the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and style. A panel of local "celebrity" judges evaluate the skaters, not on technical skills, but on artistry and level of entertainment. Admission is free. The Saturday night ice shows are a fun family event where internationally competitive figure skaters perform their programs or group numbers used during competition, under the spotlight in the 1932 Jack Shea Arena. The cost is $10 for adults, juniors and seniors are $8, while children six and under are free.
