Clayton, N.Y. - The August 21-22 Clayton-1000 Islands Gun & Sportsmen's Show has added a STAR Team Scuba Demonstration on Saturday at 12 noon. The multi-agency Special Tactics and Rescue (STAR) Team will offer a free safety and rescue demonstration at the Town Pool in the Village of Clayton. Team leader Mark Knowles said, "We will use an underwater camera to demonstration our gear and techniques and how we raise objects." The demonstration is part of the activities of the 33rd annual Clayton-1000 Islands Gun and Sportsmen's Show staged by the Rotary Club of Clayton. The show, the largest of its kind in Northern New York, fills Clayton Recreation Park Arena with vendors from across New York State with new, used and antique firearms and black powder guns, knives, sporting gear and memorabilia for hunters, anglers, outdoor and military history enthusiasts. The raffle drawing this year includes a 4-hour muskie fishing trip, two tours for two "Miss Clayton" tour boat, a half-day stand-up paddle board rental for two from T.I. Adventures, a half-hour helicopter ride with Doug Johnston, free admission and an antique boat ride for two from The Antique Boat Museum, an all-day center console boat rental for six from Clayton Marina, and an evening cruise for two with wine and cheese aboard an antique boat with Captain Jeff Garnsey. The products array at the show includes decoys; fishing tackle; knives; buckskin moccasins, saddlebags, and other leather goods; and books on fishing, hunting and the outdoors. NCIS checks are required for all firearm sales/purchases Gunsmiths, hunting guides, and collectors/sellers of military memorabilia answer questions and swap stories with show-goers. Dealers have ammunition, scopes, sights, binoculars, reloading equipment, gun cases, holsters, grips, cleaning kits, cartridges, shells, calibers, and gauges. In addition to selling, the dealers buy and trade goods. The 2010 Clayton-1000 Islands Gun and Sportsmen's Show hours are 8:30 am-5 pm Saturday, August 21 and 9 am-4 pm Sunday, August 22. The $5 adult, $4 military with ID at the door admission benefits the Club's community, scholarship and international service projects. Children under 12 enter free. This show is an Operation Yellow Ribbon Event for members of the military and their families. Clayton Recreation Park is south of the Village of Clayton along Route 12.
