The Concours will also feature the East Coast Debut of the new highly acclaimed Perana Z-One sports car designed by Zagato. Ugo Zagato revolutionized Italian car design in the early 1900's with his pioneering use of aircraft techniques to produce aerodynamic, lightweight automobile bodies. His design house, founded in 1919 in Milan, Italy, designed numerous models for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Fiat among others. Zagato bodied Alfa Romeos-including those of Scuderia Ferrari-won many races in the pre-WWII years. The post-war Zagato-bodied Grand Touring cars built for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat, Abarth, Maserati, Lancia and Aston Martin brought Zagato its greatest fame. Under grandson Andrea Zagato, the company continues its tradition of pioneering advances in automotive design. Among Zagato's most recent successes are the Perana Z-One sports car - the first collaboration between an Italian coachbuilder and a South African manufacturer. Advanced virtual reality tools were employed to enable the prototype to be completed in less than four months. The car has received rave reviews since its world premiere at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The Perana Z-one will have its East Coast debut at the festival on Saturday. Andrea Zagato will discuss Zagato's past, present and future at a seminar entitled "The Heritage of Italian Design" at 1:30 p.m on Saturday, September 11. Joining Dr. Zagato will be renowned designer and automaker Piero Rivolta and Luigi Chinetti Jr, who commissioned various design studies on Ferrari chassis for N.A.R.T. The seminar will take place among the collector Ferraris, Maseratis and Alfa Romeos on display at the Ferrari Concours.
