This year, a state-wide heritage celebration is being planned for the weekend of May 14th and May 15th to coincide with National Preservation Month.  New York Heritage Weekend will showcase the Empire State's rich history and cultural heritage to residents and visitors alike while helping to kick off the summer tourism season.  Plan your weekend online! In anticipation of this statewide celebration, a new website has been unveiled; HeritageWeekend.org.  Visitors are encouraged to use HeritageWeekend.org to discover special events and programs occurring throughout the state in conjunction with Heritage Weekend.  Search events by type (guided walk, lecture, festival, etc), by date, or by theme (including Military History, Arts and Culture, Corridor of Commerce, Architecture, and others).  Visitors can also search for special events and programs geographically using an interactive map or by entering a specific address. Enter your special events and programs on HeritageWeekend.org! From now through May 10th, all historic sites, museums, architecturally significant buildings, local historians and historical societies, battlefields, historic districts, and any other New York State heritage resources are invited to visit HeritageWeekend.org and enter their events and programs. Information can be entered by clicking on "events calendar" and then "submit your event."  "In 2009, thousands of people came to visit heritage sites across the Hudson River Valley Region," said Mark Castiglione, Acting Director of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and Greenway.
