It's that time of year when our "green" comes shining through. Orange County Tourism's event calendar is brimming with all varieties of green happenings.  Partake in our joyful tributes to Irish culture, fresh locally grown food, and the glorious nature of the region. Don't miss it!  Come celebrate a colorful March in the heart of the Hudson Valley.   Weekend Maple Sugar Tours at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall will inspire nature lovers all month long. Bundle up for an outdoor tour through the sugar bush and discover the fascinating art of maple sugaring.  Finish up with a taste test at the farmhouse before picking up some souvenir maple products at the Visitor's Center. At the opening day Maple Sugar Festival celebrated on Saturday, March 3rd, gather round the campfire for Native American storytelling, special crafts and games before embarking on your tour.  It's a super green event in the natural sense.  Then, on Sunday, March 4th, from 2-3:30PM, experience the very green, Bossy Frog Band, at the historic Paramount Theater in Middletown on Sunday, March 4th, from 2-3:30PM.  Your children will smile ear to ear after dancing and singing to the silly antics of the Bossy Frog and Munchee Monkey accompanied by festive banjo and fiddle tunes.  Legend says that unless you want to risk being pinched by a leprechaun, you'd better wear green on St. Patrick's Day! Although it's happening earlier than the official holiday, there'll be lots of folks sporting their best green accessories at the annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade starting at 2PM on March 11th in the historic Village of Goshen.  Pre-parade activities and shamrock making are in store for children, ages 3 to 11, who visit the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame's special workshop from 11AM to 1:30PM.  Those in need of some green apparel to wear can stop by Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley on the way.  It's a favorite shopping venue of visitors from Ireland as well as other international tourists. Speaking of the Emerald Isle, West Point's Eisenhower Hall Theater will feature "Women of Ireland," an exciting full stage concert production with Irish performers at 3PM on Sunday, March 18th.  In a more casual setting, the Illustrious Theatre Company will charm you with "A Wee Bit of Improv" at the Harvest Grill and Brew Pub at Pennings Farm Market on Saturday, March 17th at 8PM and Sunday, March 18th at 7PM.   If it's green technology that fuels your interest, visit the SUNY Orange Campus in Middletown at 7:15 PM on Wednesday, March 14th for an enlightening talk on solar technology.  Both the curious and the career minded can also attend a panel discussion on sustainability-related resources the following evening, March 15th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.  While you're on campus, be sure to enjoy all the shades of green displayed in the North East Watercolor Society Members Show.  100 marvelous paintings will be exhibited at the Orange Hall Gallery from 9AM to 8PM from Monday through Friday until March 24th. Orange County's famous "black dirt" growing region produces lots of greens. In fact, to the delight of many local chefs and diners, Orange County farmers grow 10,000 acres of vegetables each year.  During the 6th Annual Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, the largest culinary celebration in the valley from March 18th-31st, fine eateries throughout the Hudson Valley, including more than 20 Orange County restaurants, will be showcasing dishes prepared from fresh locally-sourced ingredients.  Treat yourself to a foodie experience and discover some new favorite dining spots.  When it's time for the snowy white slopes to relent to the green grass beneath, Mount Peter Ski Area throws a big party and everyone's invited.  It's their annual Spring Rally on Saturday, March 17th.  Have fun watching from the sidelines or join in the wacky water ski contest, big air event, obstacle course and more at their beautiful Warwick location.  Another rite of spring, the 28th Annual Spring Home Show, will be held at the SUNY Orange Physical Education Building in Middletown from Friday, March 23rd through Sunday, March 25th.  Dozens of vendors will be on hand to demonstrate how to make your home a bit greener. Before you leave, your head will be blooming with home improvement ideas.
