New FLX magazine highlights Summer Events in Rochester and the Finger Lakes
- There's something extra tagging along with the summer issue of Wegmans Menu magazine. No, not more sumptuous recipes-rather, a delicious guide to summer events in our Finger Lakes region. The guide is a magazine named FLX, and it highlights the region's golf, music, wine, beer, and food. There's also a sweepstakes offer that includes weeklong tickets to the PGA Championship and other great prizes.
One of the 14 workgroups of the Governor's Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council (FLREDC) is devoted to Tourism and the Arts. The work group is made up of key stakeholders from around the Finger Lakes region who are engaged in tourism and arts programs and promotions. Already a champion of the region, Wegmans and the group recognized an opportunity to help drive tourism in the Finger Lakes for the summer of 2013.
"What we need is for our own regional residents to become engaged in promoting our rich tourism assets," said Don Jeffries, president & CEO of VisitRochester and co-chair of the Tourism and the Arts Workgroup. "Recently, Yahoo named the Finger Lakes as one of the 10 best lake regions for tourism in the world, that's a designation that we want to build on."
Bill Strassburg, a Wegmans Vice President, concurred, "We have a strikingly beautiful Finger Lakes area and a smorgasbord of great events and institutions to choose from. When the FLREDC asked us to come up with a way to help promote tourism in the Finger Lakes, Wegmans Menu magazine instantly came to mind."
Wegmans and members of the workgroup collaborated on the piece and VisitRochester agreed to host a sweepstakes website.

"With 500,000 copies of FLX magazine mailed to residents of New York we will reach a good cross-section of potential visitors and tourists," said Strassburg.
Jeffries expressed his appreciation to Wegmans for what he calls "this shot-in-the-arm" for the region's tourism efforts.
FLX magazine with the Wegmans Menu magazine will be in the mail, and on sale at all Wegmans locations on May 20.
