New Website Feature Allows Tourists to Create Own Paths Through History

Enhances the Visitors' Experience; Tool for Teachers

Gloversville, N.Y. - My Path, a new virtual trip planner found on MohawkValleyHistory.com, will change the way visitors explore historic sites in the Mohawk Valley Region.

Mohawk Valley Region Path Through History, which launched MohawkValleyHistory.com in late 2013, ties Revolutionary War-related historic sites throughout the Mohawk Valley Region together in one story-- as "America's First Frontier."

The project is part of the statewide tourism venture, New York State Path Through History.  The Mohawk Valley Path Through History Region is comprised of Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego, Fulton, Montgomery, and Schoharie Counties and includes select sites in Saratoga County.

At MohawkValleyHistory.com/My Path, users can create a free account and craft their own personal itinerary, or "path," by selecting from the list of historic Destinations in the Region. My Path account holders can tailor their trip planner by desired date, keep track of the sites visited, view progress, mark sites as favorites, and post visits to social media.

The virtual trip planner also offers an educational component, My Path Groups, which allows teachers, parents, homeschoolers, and organizational leaders to create and organize a custom path to share with other account users.

MVPTH sees the My Path Group feature as an interactive, educational tool which will allow teachers to bring the Region's history to life through guided exploration.

The launch of My Path falls on the heels of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's Tourism Summit announcement in May, in which he pledged $45 million to promote the state as the "Tourism Capital of the World." The Governor also unveiled a new tourism advertising campaign featuring celebrities such as Billy Joel, Steve Buscemi, Robert DeNiro, and Meryl Streep.

My Path is launched just in time for Path Through History Weekends, June 7-8 & 14-15, a celebration of history and culture in the Empire State. The Mohawk Valley Region is hosting a number of events, and the complete listings can be found on MohawkValleyHistory.com.

Those interested in getting started on My Path can visit, MohawkValleyHistory.com/MyPath. MVPTH can also be found on Facebook at facebook.com/mohawkvalleyhistory; on Twitter, twitter.com/MVPTH; followed on Instagram as #mvpath; and Pinterest, pinterest.com/mvpth.
