proctors-theatre.JPGProctors will donate a portion of War Horse proceeds to life-changing non-profit. Schenectady, N.Y. -The National Theatre of Great Britain's epic WAR HORSE, winner of five 2011 Tony® Awards including Best Play, will make its premiere at Proctors, January 15-19. Hailed by The New York Times as "theatrical magic," WAR HORSE is the powerful story of young Albert's beloved horse, Joey, who has been enlisted to fight for the English in World War I. In a tale the New York Daily News calls "spellbinding, by turns epic and intimate," Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving both sides of the war before landing in no man's land. Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, filled with stirring music and songs and told with the some of the most innovative stagecraft of our time. The similarly-named, but unaffiliated Saratoga WarHorse is a nonprofit organization assisting veterans who are suffering from invisible, psychological wounds by providing a confidential peer-to-peer, action-based, equine-assisted experience that initiates immediate and long-lasting changes. Now through January 12, $10 from each WAR HORSE ticket purchase* at Proctors will be donated to Saratoga WarHorse. Based in Saratoga County, and founded by Vietnam veteran Bob Nevins, Saratoga WarHorse creates a win-win situation for veterans and off-the-track Thoroughbreds by providing an effective alternative method for healing emotional wounds and offering the horses rewarding and meaningful work after their racing careers have ended. UPDATE:  The documentary film HRTV Presents: Saratoga WarHorse has just won the Media Eclipse Award for Television (as voted by The National Thoroughbred Racing Association, in conjunction with Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers And Broadcasters). See http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/editorial/news/article.cgi?id=41988 for more info. In recognition of the life-saving work of Saratoga WarHorse, Proctors and WAR HORSE will-in addition to fundraising through ticket sales-invite select veterans to an in-house media event and the opening night performance of WAR HORSE. Cast members from the show will also be taken on a private tour of the Saratoga WarHorse campus during their stay in Schenectady. With this partnership, art and actuality join in a powerful, profound way. WAR HORSE, part of the Key Private Bank Broadway Series, is at Proctors January 15-19: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday; 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 6:30 p.m. Sunday; Matinees, 1:30 p.m. Thursday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
