The Chip Festival was started in Saratoga Springs because local legend has it that the potato chip was actually invented in The Spa City in the 1850s. A dissatisfied customer at Moon's Lake House restaurant complained that his order of potatoes were too thick, soft, and tasteless. After a few attempts to please the diner, cook George Speck Crum, in a fit of pique, reputedly sent out a plate of thinly sliced, crispy fried, heavily salted potatoes, thinking they would be inedible – and just the opposite happened. Thus, the potato chip was born.

Run by The Saratoga Springs Lions Club, the Chip Festival will help the organization help others in the community through special projects and initiatives. Saratoga Springs Lions Club “King Lion” Rick Reeves says, “We are very excited to be putting on this event for the 2nd year in a row, and thank all of the sponsors and companies who will be a part of it.”
