Cobleskill, N.Y. - The 7th Annual Golf Tournament, a benefit The Cave House Museum of Mining & Geology in Howes Cave, will take place on Friday, July 24. The day includes a tour of Howe Caverns, followed by brunch at the Caverns, a visit to The Cave House Museum, on-course refreshments while golfing and an awards dinner at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. Each year, the golf tournament raises $40,000 to $50,000 to continue development of The Cave House Museum. Both The Cave House Museum and The Cobleskill Community Activities Foundation are tax-exempt, non-profit, 501c (3) organizations. For information about the tournament, sponsorships and registration forms, contact Carrie Hunt at Cobleskill Stone Products at 518-234-0221. Checks should be made payable to The Cobleskill Community Activities Foundation. The Cave House Museum is an educational institution with goals to create and to promote a positive understanding of the past, present and future of the natural resources industry. This one-of-a-kind Museum is under construction in the unique geological area of Howes Cave, with its site adjoining the world-famous Howe Caverns. "This is the third season that the Museum has been open to the public," said Michael Galasso, president of the Museum's board of directors and vice president of aggregate and hot mix production for Cobleskill Stone Products "The funds raised through this tournament have enabled us to continue working toward our goal of creating an educational attraction for students of all ages, families and the general public," he said. The Museum is housed in the former Cave House Hotel, built of cut limestone about 1872, and is located next to the original entrance to Howe Caverns. The Museum is surrounded by a working stone quarry. Plans for The Cave House Museum also include showing the on-site quarry, along with displays of heavy earth-moving and rock-crushing equipment. When completed, the project will combine elements of tourism, education, and agribusiness. Land for the Museum project was donated by Cobleskill Stone Products, which also has contributed labor and equipment for the project. The company's efforts have been assisted by the New York Construction Materials Association. The Museum project is funded primarily through donations and fund-raising efforts. The Museum is open weekends through the summer and is a short drive from Howe Caverns. There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted. For additional information about The Cave House Museum, call Howe Caverns' General Manager and Museum Board Vice President Robert Holt at 518-296-8900 or visit www.howecaverns.com/cavehousemuseum.
