As the Tourism Promotion Agent (TPA) for the Adirondacks Tug Hill Region, Merrill's consecutive two-year term began earlier this month. Kate Johnson, the Director of Warren County Tourism, was appointed Vice President of the Board during the Council's regular monthly meeting on January 21, 2014 at the Lake Placid CVB/Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism office. The ARTC encompasses all of Warren, Essex, Clinton, Franklin, Hamilton, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties, and has been actively promoting the Adirondacks as a tourism destination for over 25 years. In 2013 alone, the region's integrated marketing, advertising and public relations programs generated over 800,000 unique visitors to the official tourism website of the Adirondack Region,  "The ARTC is a great group of extremely invested tourism promotion agencies who want the Adirondacks to be top-of-mind as a travel destination," stated Merrill. "We're a dynamic group with a common goal - to promote the Adirondacks as the place for outdoor recreation, family-friendly fun and off-the-beaten path adventure. Our unofficial motto is ‘visit once and you'll always return'." A non-profit consortium of seven counties, the ARTC cooperatively promotes economic development through tourism and destination marketing.  Offices are maintained at the Adirondack Welcome Center located on I-87 South in Beekmantown. "The ARTC has been delivering progressive and compelling marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns for decades," stated Johnson. "In 2014 and beyond, our Council will continue to champion the wonderfully diverse and unique destination that is the Adirondack Region." Additional ARTC Board appointments include:
  • Treasurer: Carol Joannette, Vice President of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism
  • Secretary: Kristy Kennedy, Vice President, Marketing of the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau
