National Harbor, MD - Looking to increase group travel and tourism to the Adirondack Region, the following tourism professionals were part of the more than 3,200 participants who attended the 2010 American Bus Association Marketplace in National Harbor, MD Jan. 15-19: Tanya Brand, Warren County Tourism Department; Kristy Kennedy, Champlain Shores Visitors & Convention Bureau; Tim Bresett, Adirondack Regional Tourism Council; Allison Kaupelis, Lake Placid, Essex County Visitors Bureau; Marci Hall, Fort Ticonderoga; Donna Pohl, Raquette Lake Navigation; Doreen Brown, Lake George Steamboat Co.; Amanda Copeland, Surfside on the Lake Resort; Melinda Richner; Hampton Inn & Suites; Brian Cole, Clarion Inn & Suites, Sally Wood, The Wild Center, Tillie Youngs, 1000 Islands Seaway Region and various other representatives from tourism agencies around New York State. The show helps businesses increase their share of the group travel market, an important segment of the travel industry that generates much needed dollars to local economies. Maintaining Tour Operator awareness of the Adirondack Region and all it has to offer group tour visitors is a year round objective for these tourism professionals. Many attend various shows such as this throughout the year. "ABA Marketplace is one of the biggest and best shows on my promotion schedule every year. I look forward to having appointments with new Tour Operators in order to promote our area to their clients but also I anticipate reconnecting with Tour Operators that I already have relationships with in order to assist them with their current or future itineraries to our area", explains Tanya Brand, Group Tour Promoter for Warren County Tourism Department. Members of American Bus Association collectively donated $45,000 to the Yellow Ribbon Fund Charity as part of the 2010 Marketplace. Celebrated singer Tony Orlando sang his signature ballad "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" as part of the shows Opening Ceremonies. His presence on stage and later among the delegates in the audience and the YRF booth on the show floor helped to encourage many of the 3,000+ delegates in attendance to support the charity. The Yellow Ribbon Fund helps families of recuperating soldiers and the soldiers themselves recover. Marketplace travels to Philadelphia in 2011, and to Grapevine, Texas in 2012, site of the 2007 event.
