Riverhead, NY – The Downtown Riverhead Business Improvement District [BID] brought back its largest event, Alive on 25 [AO25] Thursday, July 15 2021 with the highest turnout in its history; nearly 20,000 people enjoyed the festival, car show and fireworks. For three remaining dates, Alive on 25 will introduce a ‘Kids Zone’ plus Outdoor Family Movie Nights and Reflextions: Art in the Park neon light exhibit inside Grangebel Park.
AO25 is scheduled for July 29, August 12 and 19, 2021 from 5-9:30pm along Peconic Avenue and Main Street, between Griffing Avenue (west) and Union Avenue (east). Kids zone will include Face Painting, toys and balloons, Bubblepalooza, Riverhead Library, Local Scouts, Cornell, Relic Sustainability and more. The family-focused outdoor movies are offered by Main Street Agency and Reflextions: Art in the Park run after dark, from 8-10pm. Local children have been given the opportunity to choose the movies.
“It has been wonderful to see so many people dancing, eating, shopping and gathering on Main Street again! You could feel the joy at our comeback event, people were thrilled to be out and reconnecting. I have not seen smiles that big in a really long time. We are delighted to bring downtown events back to the community and reinvigorate Riverhead,” Kristy Verity, Executive Director, Riverhead Business Improvement District.
“Increasing kid-friendly offerings at Alive on 25 has been our focus since 2020. With help from many local organizations, Alive on 25 will introduce a Kids Zone this year, bursting with free activities along Peconic Avenue. Grangebel Park will come alive at sunset with an outdoor family movie and glowing Dedication Garden plus neon light art by Reflextions - a truly magical and instagrammable experience along the Peconic River. We'll have something for everyone at Alive on 25.”
“Community is at the heart of everything we do, so Main Street Agency & Productions is very excited to work with the Riverhead BIDMA to bring our luminaries and projection screen to downtown Riverhead to provide more family friendly experiences. We love seeing new people enjoy the park and this is a perfect pairing with Reflextions, Art in the Park and Alive on 25, two great events made possible by the Town of Riverhead.” Diane Tucci, Main Street Agency
AO25 is a free walkable, pop-up street festival annually offering local craft beverages, food trucks, dining, street vendors, local artisans, face painters, stilt walkers, jugglers and activities the whole family can enjoy. Live musicians perform on six stages.
AO25 began as a dedicated initiative of the Riverhead BID in hopes of growing the downtown district into a place where people want to live, work, play and learn. By utilizing creative placemaking strategies, the BID’s annual events have had much success in stimulating economic growth, while also providing many benefits for visitors, the community and historic downtown.
