Brooklyn Botanic Garden Virtual Cherry BlossomsSunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. EDT on Facebook Live and bbg.org

Part of Series of Virtual Garden Tours and Events

Brooklyn, NY—This Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. EDT, Brooklyn Botanic Garden brings cherry blossom season home in a new video walk through Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk in magnificent full bloom created by cinematographer Nic Petry of Dancing Camera. A sneak peak can be viewed now, and the full video will premiere on Sunday on Facebook Live and bbg.org.

The Garden remains temporarily closed, but BBG invites visitors to experience one of NYC’s most spectacular spring sights with this virtual visit.

The new video is part of a series of virtual Garden tours and events that BBG debuted last month. Recent videos offered a meditative stroll through the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and exhilarating performance highlights from past Sakura Matsuri festivals.

The cherry blossom virtual walk will stream live on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. EDT on Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Facebook Live and bbg.org.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk feature more than 120 flowering cherry blossom trees that delight hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The double blossoms of the Prunus 'Kanzan' trees that make up most of Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk were bred to have up to 28 petals each. (Cherry blossoms naturally have five petals.) Among the last to bloom, 'Kanzan' represents the finale of cherry blossom season.

Fans have been following the blooming of BBG’s full cherry blossom collection on the Garden’s CherryWatch map, which was updated even during the temporary closure.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden has always been a place of respite for the community. In this unprecedented moment, the Garden has become even more still and peaceful. BBG hopes the sights of the spring blooms and the sounds of nature will bring a moment of comfort to virtual visitors.
