April 16th Deadline Approaches

Ogdensburg, N.Y. - The Frederic Remington Art Museum invites artists to submit artwork for the 2015 Members' Juried Art Exhibit which will be on display May 23 - September 27, 2015.

In the 2015 Members' Juried Art Exhibit, the museum's member artists are invited to submit up to three digital photos of their art. Open to artists everywhere, one work from each artist is guaranteed acceptance. This exhibit is the museum's most inclusive juried art exhibit; every artist gets at least one work in the show. It's during the museum's peak tourist season, so gets maximum exposure.

Not a member? Artists can join the museum with the exhibit entry form.

The juror chooses from digital representations of up to three artworks, and also awards prizes for "best in show," 2nd and 3rd place. A "Public's Choice" award will be chosen by visitor ballots cast throughout the exhibition. The prize, a framed print of Frederic Remington's 1887 painting, Small Oaks, will go to the winner.

The juror is Sharon H. J. Cheng, a New York Foundation for the Arts/ MARK09 artist. Sharon is originally from Taiwan, where she earned her degrees in Arts. Later, she studied art conservation and architecture in the US. Since 2000, she has lived in Potsdam, NY. Sharon has been actively showing her oil paintings in solo exhibitions, studio tours, regional and international juried and group exhibitions. She had three solo shows at the Pleiades Gallery in New York, of which she was a member from 2008 to 2014. Sharon's oil paintings, Galaxy Dance and Sky Peeking, are respectively selected images in the SLC Arts Council 2014 and 2015 Fine Art Up North Calendars. She was the featured artist in the 2014 spring issue of ARTS QUARTERLY, SLC ARTS.

Recently Sharon has also developed interests in contemporary Sumi-E, plaster, and mixed media sculpture, which have sharpened her sensibility in a wider range of artistic forms.

From Sharon's artist statement: "I am a painter who holds the ancient Chinese philosophy of ‘Chi', also called Energy, Spirit, and Soul, deep in my heart. ‘Chi' is the backbone of my work. In my opinion, ‘Chi' not only pervades the universe, but is also expressed in every shape and form. I believe ‘Chi' is the essence of all creativity and flows from the character of the artist. ‘Chi' is the dynamic principle of artistic creation that transcends representational appearance and sentimental atmospherics." www.sharonhjchengstudio.com.
