dad kids plant walk IDCornwall, NY - The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum is hosting two Weekend Nature Programs in the month of May,  “Go Flora Walk” on Saturday, May 7, and PHOTOsynthesis: Nature Photography for Beginners on Sunday May 22. Both Programs offer sessions at 10am and 1pm and will take place at the Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center location, 120 Muser Drive, off of Angola Road in Cornwall.

On Saturday May 7, Join Dr. Christine Halvorsen Baldwin and Nature Educator Adam to “Go Flora Walk” and discover the names of some common plants that you have probably seen most of your life. When we go hiking, we may think of the plants we see by the side of the trail as part of the scenery, but many of them can also keep us fed, healthy, and warm, while others are best avoided. Learn what’s  in bloom and the ways in which Native Peoples and other cultures have used these plants for food and medicine.  Emphasis will be on identification and participant interest

On Sunday May 22,  Nature Educator and amateur photographer Sam Walter will lead a guided walk on the trails connecting the fields and wetlands around the Outdoor Discovery Center during “PHOTOsynthesis: Nature Photography for Beginners” .  Learn basic camera use and composition tips before heading out in search of subjects including local fauna and blooming flora. Bring your cameras or iphones/ipads. A camera will be available to share. After the walk, participants will show off their art as their favorite photos shared on a larger screen for the group to enjoy

Pre-registration is required.  These programs are recommended for ages 5 and up. Admission is $8/Adults, $6/Children (up to age 12)  Not-yet-Members: $10/Adults, $8/Children (up to age 12). Children under 3 are free.  Visit HHNM.ORG for more information and registration.
