brantling-bluegrass-festival.JPGSodus, N.Y. - The 5th Annual Brantling Bluegrass Festival will be held August 1-3, 2013 on the grounds of Brantling Ski Slopes, 4015 Fish Farm Road, Sodus, NY. Rebecca Colleen and the Chore Lads will be serving as host band again this year and will be playing each day of the festival. Rebecca is a young, soulful, powerful singer. She has performed with Rhonda Vincent, Claire Lynch, Valerie Smith, the Gibson Brothers, and April Verch among others, as well as being featured on WVBR's Bound for Glory radio show.  From break your heart ballads to incendiary instrumentals, this is a singer and a band that puts on a show everyone can enjoy. The Roys headline the show on Thursday. Also performing on Thursday are Jeanette (2013 SPBGMA Traditional Female Vocalist of the year) and Johnny Wlliams and Sons of Bluegrass. Claire Lynch, 2 time IBMA vocalist of the year, graces the stage on Friday along with Nu-Blu, and Sons of Bluegrass. Saturday's line up is jammed packed with Larry Stephenson, Sons of Bluegrass, Lake Effect Bluegrass, Old Divide and Remington Ryde, a frequently requested band. Organizers Peter McDonald, Kevin Spear, and Mike Garlock are excited to be bringing 20+ hours of music with such talented top-notched singers, songwriters and musicians to the stage and beautiful venue at Brantling. The festival, Wayne County and the surrounding area's only three-day Bluegrass Music Festival is now in its 5th year. The festival is expanding and a new addition for 2013 includes a Wednesday night Contra/Square Dance/Jam to welcome our weekend visitors and is open to the public. This year the Brantling Bluegrass Academy features the Sons of Bluegrass. Sons of Bluegrass band members are all graduates of Eastern Tennessee State University and will be teaching their craft and sharing their love of music in academy workshops scheduled throughout the 3 day event. The venue is held across the street from the slopes on flat terrain. Parking is convenient and free. The gate opens Wednesday July 31st at noon for camping. FREE rough camping is available for tents, campers and RV's with the purchase of a three-day weekend ticket or $10 per unit/night for day tickets. Electricity and water is not available.  Porta-Potties are located throughout the festival and camping grounds and festival goers will have access to the bathrooms inside the ski lodge. Bring your lawn chair, sit back, relax and enjoy the day. Large rain/sun tents will be available. Food and beverage concessions and craft vendors will also be on-site. Bringing family friendly events to Brantling year round is a goal of Brantling's owner, Kevin Spear. "In addition to great music and academy workshops, families can enjoy camping, hiking the slopes, fishing in the pond, playing lawn games, entering the BBQ cook-off and using children's play area. Wayne County offers a plethora of activities for families to enjoy before and after the music from the beautiful bluffs and beaches of Lake Ontario to visiting area farm markets and wineries.
