Cornwall, N.Y. - Cooped up and need something to do!? Join the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum for one, two, or all three events being held during the Museum's "Winter Wonderland Weekend", Friday February 10 thru Sunday February 12, at the Outdoor Discovery Center, on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall. According to Museum Educator Carl Heitmuller, "as of that weekend, Spring will only be 5 weeks away, so let's appreciate Winter while it's still here!"
Kicking off the weekend will be the Adult Adventure: Full Moon Snowshoe Hike on Friday, February 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30p.m.
Enjoy the moonlit fields and forests on a guided snowshoe trek. Review the history of and compare types of snowshoes, then venture outside to explore the sights and sounds of winter under the snow moon. Warm up with hot cocoa and a treat. Bring your own snowshoes. If there is no snow, there will be hike a instead. This event requires pre-registration either online at hhnm.org or by calling 845.534.5506 x204. Walk-ins welcome only if space allows. Admission: Museum Members - $6/Adults, $4/Children ages 10 - 17. Not-yet-Members - $8 Adults, $6 Children ages 10 -17.
Next up, on Saturday, February 11 at 10am will be the debut of Cloudy with a Chance of ... Discovering Weather. Do you ever wonder why it snows? Or what causes wind? Bring the family to have fun uncovering some of the mysteries behind weather! This interactive program is suggested for adults and families with children over the age of three. Same day admission to the Museum's Wildlife Education Center, located at 25 Boulevard, Cornwall-on-Hudson, is FREE for attendees of this event. Admission: Museum Members - $5/Adults, $3/Children. Not-yet-Members - $7/Adults, $5/Children.
Finally, on Sunday, February 12, drop in any time between 11a.m. and 3p.m. for a Snow Day! Join Museum Educators for some frosty fun! Explore the woods, play goofy games in the snow, track some critters, go sledding, and make snow crafts. Dress for snow and fun! Event will be held snow or shine. Heitmuller added, "Snow or no snow... Bring the kids out for some Winter fun. We will enjoy the day by participating in snow related activities, games and crafts. Snow Day will be held with or without snow and of course Grasshopper Grove will be open for this special event!" This event is for families with children ages 5 and up.
