The Catskills, A Winter Wonderland Destination for Holiday & Family Fun
Greene County, N.Y. (November 16, 2015) - Get into a festive spirit in the snowy Catskill Mountains this holiday
season when Small Business Saturday meets Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and live performances are offered along with arts and crafts fairs featuring gift-ready
works of art.
Small Business Saturday is slated for November 28 in Windham, Hunter and Tannersville. From 10 am to 6 pm, nearly 40 retail merchants will offer in-store sales and specials to celebrate the "shop small" movement. Shoppers may enter to win a holiday stocking filled with gift certificates to area businesses valued over $1,000. Simply request a Small Business Saturday card from a participating business, gather at least five separate business signatures, and enter to win at the last store visited.
Cairo Holiday Parade & Craft Fair on November 28 features a holiday parade on Main Street at 5 pm, a holiday craft fair at Gallagher's Banquet Hall and the chance to get a
picture taken with Santa. Events are slated from 3 pm to 8 pm.
Scrooge & Son, A Catskill Christmas Carol will debut at the Catskill Mountain Foundation's Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville on December 4 at 7 pm. Presented by the Kaaterskill Actors Theater and Petite Productions Academy, the classic Charles Dickens tale is retold in a Catskills context against the rise of the tanning industry, the orphan train movement, and the arrival of ballet in America. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and there will be three showings only.
Athens Annual Victorian Stroll on December 12 features favored traditions from noon to 5 pm. Carolers dressed in Victorian-era costumes, as well as horse-drawn trolley rides, and cultural performances including the Hudson River Bells, Athens Presque Ballet, and more. Arts and crafts vendors, a
children's holiday cottage contest, historic open houses, a wine tasting, and food specials at local restaurants add to the event's charm.
Skiing & Riding Day with Santa at Windham Mountain Resort is an annual favorite, slated for December 13, open to 300 Santas who pre-register. Anyone who shows up dressed
like the Jolly Old Elf will receive a free lift ticket for that day, along with two midweek, non-holiday vouchers. Pre-registration is required and a donation of $20 is requested for the local food pantry.
