"Famous Love Stories of the Gilded Age"

Staatsburg, N.Y. (2/2/17) - Due to popular demand, Staatsburgh State Historic Site has added another date for its annual Valentine Weekend program, "Famous Love Stories of the Gilded Age." This talk with tea takes place in the mansion's formal dining room on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. and is part of the site's popular Gilded Age Tea & Talk series. Staatsburgh is the former Hudson River estate of Ogden Mills and Ruth Livingston Mills.

Consider treating your Valentine to scones, tea sandwiches and the site's unique and delicious tea, blended by renowned tea purveyors, Harney & Sons, while listening to a brief talk by Staatsburgh Curator Maria Reynolds, who will share tales and images of some of the most notable pairings of the era. From a couple remembered forever as the subject of a John Singer Sargent painting, to the unlikely union between the grandson of a robber baron and his sister's Italian tutor, this talk will explore great (or turbulent) romances and marriages.  A sweet treat to celebrate Valentine's Day will accompany the traditional sandwiches and scones.

Reservations are required and each program in the Gilded Age Tea & Talk series begins at 1 p.m. Individual tea programs are $30 per person or $25 per person for Friends of Mills Mansion members.  Reservations are required so please call 845-889-8851 or email, to reserve. Gift certificates for all Tea & Talk programs are available by contacting the site.

Future dates in the series that still have slots open are on Sundays in April at 1 p.m. On April 9 and 23, "Fashion on the Titanic" will be presented during the anniversary month of the tragedy. What would you pack for your voyage on the Titanic? From fashionable 1st class to functional 3rd class, Staatsburgh Educator Don Fraser will share some of the styles of 1912.

Staatsburgh's beautiful museum shop is a favorite stop for many Hudson Valley shoppers.  The shop features a wonderful selection of jewelry, books, scarves, keepsakes and gifts.  The shop will be open during each program. Friends of Mills Mansion members always receive a 20% discount in the shop.

The site and the Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills Memorial State Park are located on Old Post Road in Staatsburg, off Route 9 between Rhinebeck and Hyde Park.
