watkins-glen-cofc.JPGWatkins Glen, N.Y. - What do a pharmacist, an immunologist, a social worker, a marketing manager, a teacher, and a homemaker all have in common? A love of fiber, of course!  The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to introduce FiberArts in the Glen, a new fiber store in downtown Watkins Glen. Please join us for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony and hear the story of how nineteen women pooled their talents and resources to open FiberArts in the Glen. This ceremony marks the beginning of a week-long celebration. When: Friday, November 1, 2013 Time: 5:00 - 7:00 PM Where: FiberArts in the Glen, 315 North Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature local dignitaries and an official welcome with opening remarks by Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, Rebekah LaMoreaux; Schuyler County Administrator, Tim O'Hearn; Schuyler County Chairman of the Legislature, Dennis Fagan; Watkins Glen Mayor, Mark Swinnerton; and a representative from FiberArts in the Glen. FiberArts in the Glen offers a wide selection of yarn, classes and knitting and crocheting supplies.  Future plans include offering a broad range of products, including products from local producers and classes in weaving and spinning.  Whether you are a beginner or an expert in fiber art, you can feel at home with the experienced staff members that are available to read a pattern or to help fix a mistake.  Customers can experience the color and texture of fiber, enjoy a cup of coffee, browse the internet for patterns or inspiration, or simply chat and knit. The owners encourage you to learn new skills and build new friendships as you experience all FiberArts in the Glen has to offer. The week long grand opening celebration continues with special guest Cheryl Schaefer, nationally recognized fiber artist, who will be on hand to talk about her thirty years in the fiber industry on Sunday November 3rd from 1:00 - 3:30 pm.  She will provide one of the last public opportunities to purchase Schaefer yarns in the face of her retirement.  Knitwear designer Laura Nelkin will be featured on Saturday November 9th from 1:00-3:30 to culminate the week's events with a trunk show.  A selection of her unique beaded jewelry kits will be for sale.
