fireball-run.pngWatkins Glen, N.Y. - The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Universal Studios to bring the Fireball Run Film Series to Watkins Glen. The adventurous, award-winning series will work to highlight missing children in America. Village of Watkins Glen Mayor Mark Swinnerton said, "I can't think of a more perfect fit than Watkins Glen for the Fireball Run to visit during the filming of its event."   Fireball Run is a live streaming motion picture series production. Forty teams made up of business owners, corporate leaders, industry celebrities, and elected officials compete in an epic and emotional interactive point-of-interest based competition - described as a cerebral game. Chamber President & CEO Rebekah LaMoreaux has been working with the producers of Fireball Run since May. When they first contacted her, they were eager to find a way to include Watkins Glen based upon the receipt of a media kit that was sent to them from the Chamber of Commerce. Rebekah immediately began reaching out to several businesses in the area to help host the series. "It will be an incredibly unique opportunity to market Watkins Glen and Schuyler County. Not only to the prestigious teams, but also to the masses following the series online and the viewers of the future film," Rebekah said. "This will be the biggest tourism promotion initiative that I have had the privilege to be involved in."   The series will be filmed over eight days, in 14 cities, and 2000 miles. It will feature successful business leaders, civic leaders and celebrities. This year Fireball Run celebrates women in professional sports with female celebrity drivers that include; Long Beach Grand Prix winner Shea Holbrook, World Champion Wakeboarder Tarah Mikacich, Drag Racing Super Comp Champ Tina Stull, Lumberjill "Timber Tina" Scheer and Women's Rodeo Champion Kelly Kaminski. There may even be an appearance by a female Astronaut. Other notable participants include the Mayor of Gallup New Mexico, the CEO of Crystal Springs Water, Maine's Director of Tourism, and internationally-renowned artist, Laurence Gartel. The FIREBALL RUN adventure is a national live event and film series that supports the Race to Recover America's Missing Children. Each of the 40 teams is assigned a missing child from its home region along with thousands of posters to distribute along the route. A decal featuring the child is affixed to the vehicle, creating a rolling awareness campaign. The Race to Recover America's Missing Children is the largest active recovery effort for missing and exploited children in the country. To date, the effort has assisted in the recovery of 38 missing children. More event details regarding Fireball Run's mission challenges in the region and the Watkins Glen visit will be released in the coming weeks; however, the production welcomes the public to watch the teams as they arrive in Watkins Glen for lunch and passage control on Tuesday, September 25th. "Watkins Glen is the ‘birth place of American Road Racing' and we will have an opportunity to share our history through the filming of this event," Swinnerton said. "This is a tremendous opportunity to share our story with the rest of America that will surely inspire people to come and visit us."    Fans nationwide will be able to watch the race "live" on beginning Friday September 21st as the 40 teams and their unique vehicles begin arriving in Independence, OH for Sunday's exciting start. The rally will continue to be streamed live online and tracked via GPS as it traverses the Northeast until its dramatic conclusion Saturday, September 29th in Bangor, Maine. Online "webisodes," a film premiere and DVD will be released following the "live" event within the year. Official 2012 destination cities include Independence, OH; Jamestown, NY; Wellsboro, PA; Watkins Glen, NY; Watertown, N; Schenectady, NY; Waterbury, CT; Ogunquit, ME; and Bangor, ME. The national event and production is headquartered at Universal Studios Florida.
