Yonkers, N.Y. (August 20, 2017) – Fall’s First Thursday Gallery Hop will feature several exhibits that explore cultural diversity and how these groups enriched historic and present-day Yonkers. The monthly art walk takes place Thurs., Sept. 7 with a celebratory kick-off at Blue Door Art Gallery at 5 p.m. Philipse Manor Hall, PC4, Urban Studio Unbound (US+U) and Riverfront Art Gallery will be open to the public from 5:30-7:30 p.m. that evening.
Blue Door Art Gallery, 13 Riverdale Ave., and Philipse Manor Hall, 29 Warburton Ave., are presenting a group exhibition “Assyrians in Yonkers, A Tale of Hope and Survival” that will run from Sept. 7 - Nov. 21 and features art and a documentary and lecture series. Since the early 20th century, Yonkers has been home to a flourishing Assyrian community. Assyrians are an indigenous people of the Middle East and are some of the earliest Christians and their history spans 6,767 years.
Riverfront Art Gallery, 1 Larkin Center, Fourth Floor in the library, is hosting its annual art exhibition, "Yonkers: Nuestra Ciudad" sponsored by Mayor Mike Spano's Hispanic Advisory Board. This exhibit celebrates the importance of the Latino community in Yonkers.
PC4, 16 Warburton Ave., will showcase 12 local artists in “The Irascibles,” bringing together an array of artisans, painters, sculptors, and photographers into one spectacular space.
US+U, 66 Main St., mesmerizing show “the in-between” will run for two more weeks through Riverfest, ending on Sept. 16. This exhibit features a range of mediums, approaches and content inspired by a variety of subject matter.
Local restaurants, including Bella Havana, Café Hudson, Dolphin, Francey Brady, Guapo, Khangri Sushi, Le Moulin, X20, Yonkers Brewery and Zuppas, will be offering a ten percent discount on food and drink specials for all gallery attendees. Visitors can pick up a restaurant voucher at any of the five venues.
The Gallery Hops are free and a wonderful time to experience downtown Yonkers’ exploding art scene, making it a cultural destination for residents, curators and collectors.

The First Thursday Gallery Hop takes place on the first Thursday of each month, attracting hundreds of attendees to downtown Yonkers. It is produced by Haifa Bint-Kadi and sponsored by the Yonkers Gallery Group, an alliance of galleries including Blue Door Art Center, Friends of Philipse Manor Hall, PC4/ SUNY Purchase College, Urban Studio Unbound and Yonkers Riverfront Library.
