First Sunday of The Month: Genealogy Sunday
Sunday, March 3: Are Your Ancestors at the Buffalo History Museum? • 2:00 p.m. Join speaker Cynthia Van Ness, Director of Library and Archives at the Buffalo History Museum, in the historic Forest Lawn chapel as she talks about what resources the Museum has for genealogical research, including its obituary index, picture collections, city directories, church records, atlases and more. Cynthia will also discuss how to utilize these resources to search for information about your family. Seating is limited; reservations are required. Second Sunday of The Month: Concert & Lecture Series Sunday, March 10: Chicken Wing Wisdom: Stories of WNY Women at Forest Lawn • 2:00 p.m. Celebrate Women's History Month and the wisdom of the Western New York women of Forest Lawn in Forest Lawn's historic chapel as speaker Christina Abt tells the stories of how these women changed their lives, their communities and sometimes even the world! Christina is a Western New York newspaper columnist and magazine contributor whose work has been featured in national magazines and in a number of Chicken Soup Books. Christina's first book, Chicken Wing Wisdom: Western New York Stories of Family, Life and Food Shared Around the Table, has become a WNY best seller and is in its second printing. Kindred, an eclectic folk duo with a Celtic flair, will play musical selections reflecting the eras of these WNY women of Forest Lawn. Seating is limited; reservations are required. Third Sunday of The Month: Salute To Veterans Sunday, March 17: Yankee Doodle Comes to Forest Lawn • 2:00 p.m. Join us as 23 Skidoo presents, Swinging the Oldies, Bourbon Street Style. It's veterans saluting veterans as this talented foursome on banjo, tuba, saxophone and trumpet brings Yankee Doodle Dandy to Forest Lawn's historic chapel for an afternoon of foot-tapping music, audience sing-alongs and so much more. Fourth Sunday of The Month: Buffalo's Best Restaurants Remembered Sunday, February 24: The Cloister • 2:00 p.m. James D. DiLapo Jr. bought the site of Mark Twain's Buffalo residence at 472 Delaware Avenue and, in 1964, opened The Cloister restaurant. Known for its décor and superb menu, The Cloister won numerous awards and was known as Buffalo's premier restaurant. Join speaker Marla Bujnicki, master docent for Buffalo Tours, as she goes back in time to an era of restaurant elegance, complete with a display of memorabilia including old menus and advertising.
