Auburn, NY- In honor of Black History month, The Cayuga County Office of Tourism and Justin Harris Tours, is excited to present Harriet Tubman’s Chosen Hometown Walking Tour. Follow in the footsteps of Harriet Tubman, across the streets and floors of the historical landmarks that welcomed her to live as a free woman in her chosen hometown of Auburn, NY.
Join tour guide Justin Harris on Sat., Feb. 18, 2023, at noon in front of the Equal Rights Heritage Center (ERHC), located at 25 South Street in Auburn, for this free tour. This walking tour is about an hour and thirty minutes (approx. 2 miles) and will end back at the ERHC. If there is inclement weather, the tour will be conducted inside the Center. During this tour you will learn about Harriet Tubman’s legacy in Auburn, walk by the Seward House Museum and stop at the William H. Seward Statue, then proceed to Fort Hill Cemetery to visit Harriet Tubman’s grave site.
Harriet Tubman is Auburn, NY’s most famous freedom seeker. She escaped from slavery in 1849 and became a conductor on the Underground Railroad, making multiple trips and helping many men, women and children escape slavery. She settled in Auburn in 1859 and lived there for 54 years until her death in 1913.
