Orange County, N.Y. (October 6, 2022) – The fun and frights abound in Orange County. N.Y. as Halloween approaches, with terrifying attractions, haunted hayrides, cemetery tours and more – including scare-free events for the kids.
“From the bravest of the brave to families who want the fun without the fright, Orange County, N.Y. has the perfect Halloween thrill for everyone,” said Amanda Dana, Director of Orange County Tourism & Film. “Orange County is always gorgeous, but in October it’s the most booo-tiful place around. Stay for the weekend. There’s so much to do, the only thing truly scary is missing out on all the great times!”
Top Halloween season attractions include:
Silvio’s Villa Ristorante and Martini Bar, 274 State Route 94 South, Warwick: There’s more than meets the eye – or the taste buds – in this elegant restaurant known for its excellent Italian cuisine. Ghostly shapes, unexplained footsteps and missing items add an air of mystery to the restored 18th century mansion, which is said to be haunted by a murder from the 1970s. Ask to sit at Table 24 – if you dare. Open Tuesday through Sunday. Reservations recommended.
Pure Terror Scream Park, Museum Village, 299 Museum Village Road, Monroe: Featuring 10 haunted walk-through sites, Pure Terror holds the Guinness World Record for the longest haunted attraction. Brave the Crypt, Camp Killmore, Woods of the Dead and the newest feature, Bedlam State Asylum. A Halloween monster-themed midway also offers great food, music and photo opportunities at every turn. Pure Terror immerses you in a world of movie-quality sets and Hollywood-grade props and costumes. Recommended for ages 12 and up, Pure Terror is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 30. Brick-or-Treat Presents Monster Party, LEGOLAND® New York, 1 LEGOLAND® Way, Goshen: LEGOLAND® New York Resorts welcomes kids and their families to a brick-tacular Halloween party with all-new live entertainment and shows! Meet never-before-seen LEGO® Halloween characters, and of course, go trick-or-treating. Witchingtonville After Dark, Washingtonville: A one-night-only creepy carnival filled with games and prizes, face painters, balloon artists, jugglers, props, and entertainment, plus “Haunted History Tours” of Washingtonville Cemetery. Vendors will sell their goods and local shops will welcome visitors. Presented by Guilty Pleasure's Cheesecakes. The cemetery tours, presented by Full Moon Paranormal are for those aged 14 and up. Learn the stories behind some of the fascinating people buried in the Washingtonville Cemetery. The staff of Full Moon Paranormal will use ghost hunting equipment to attempt to communicate with the cemetery’s permanent residents. Oct. 15. Boo Barn and Haunted Trails, Thunderbird Farms, 13 Van Sickle Road, Pine Island: Test your nerve in the terrifying Boo Barn, where many hungry, creepy things – some played by live actors – roam the rustic 1900s barn. The fright begins before you reach the barn, when you venture down the farm’s original haunted trail, past an old graveyard. Or try the three super-creepy paths with thrills, chills and frights. For the bravest, there’s the combination package – the barn and the trails – which comes with a free flashlight while supplies last. Not in the mood for fright? Halloween Fun at the UFO Museum, UFO & Paranormal Museum, 86 Main St. Pine Bush: Halloween activity is bustling at the UFO museum with something for everyone. There’s a new haunted crop circle for those aged 11 and up (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October plus Halloween); a Mystery at the Museum for kids 10 and under (Saturdays and Sundays in October), leading guests through a labyrinth for hidden treats and haunted prizes; and a Zombie Seltzer Scramble scavenger hunt for those 21 and older (Oct. 13, 20 and 27). https://pinebushmuseum.com/halloween-events/
Prison of Horror, Hudson Sports Complex, 122 State School Road, Warwick: Do you have what it takes to brave this former jail and boys’ reform school where some of the residents passed on, but never really left? Bangs, shrieks, slamming doors and even the touches of lingering spirits make a visit here an experience to rattle the nerves. Nightmare on Werner, 30 Werner Ave., Florida: This terror maze will scare you with more than 20 bone-chilling scenes straight from your worst nightmares! It is sure to give you a fright – except on kid-friendly non-scare Sundays. The Haunting of Hill-Hold, 128 NY 416, Campbell Hall: Join Full Moon Paranormal for a special Halloween event – a paranormal investigation at the Hill-Hold Museum! Explore and investigate a stone farmhouse built in 1769 and a historic 1870 barn with special guest speakers, Rosalyn and Michael Lewis, psychically-gifted paranormal investigators from Walden, N.Y. You may recognize Rosalyn as a cast member of Ghost Hunters Academy on the Syfy Channel! Light refreshments will be served. Costumes are welcomed, but no masks or face paint and no weapons. No Scare Halloween, Museum Village, 1010 Route 17M, Monroe: All the fun with none of the fright makes this a “fab-boo-lous” Halloween celebration for the little ones. Boo Arrow Farm Haunted Hay Rides, Blue Arrow Farm, 86 Glenwood Rd, Pine Island: The frightfully spooky Haunted Hayride will take you through the most haunted section of Boo Arrow Farm, where zombies, witches, butchers, pirates and other unknown creatures of the night are waiting to meet you for dinner! After the ride, stick around for some treats from vendors, live and 'not so alive' music, and other fun Halloween activities. I SPY Halloween Scavenger Haunt, Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, Outdoor Discovery Center, 20 Muser Drive Cornwall: A pirate crew needs your help to uncover treasure and gold. Find the hidden items along the trail to help the crew climb aboard their ship and set sail. This self-guided activity is a great way for families with little ghouls and goblins to celebrate Halloween. Costumes are encouraged! Oct. 29.
