ROCHESTER, N.Y. - George Eastman House International Museum of Photography & Film has earned "Gold" for its podcasts in the Muse Award competition of the American Association of Museums (AAM). The MUSE Award competition, now in its 20th year, recognizes excellence in media produced by or for museums around the globe. Eastman House earned top ranking in the podcast category for its online features of collection highlights and museum activities - such as conservation of an Abraham Lincoln glass-plate image; the 1966 lunar orbiter; motion-picture film preservation projects; traveling exhibitions of iconic American photographs and the work of contemporary photographers; and a unique acquisition featuring Edward Steichen autochromes. "Each podcast episode is of consistently high quality," the judges noted. "The attention to podcast length, typography, and appealing video and audio help each episode to stand well on its own, as a self-contained story relating to the George Eastman House and its artists." Earning the silver award was the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the bronze award was awarded to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The Eastman House staff created the podcasts in conjunction with New York City-based production company Pimzlo Media, which is owned by photographer Ross Whitaker. The podcasts feature Eastman House curators, archivists, visiting artists, and its director. Eastman House's podcasts can be accessed by its Web site (eastmanhouse.org), iTunes, or YouTube. Eastman House activities can be followed on Twitter at EastmanHouse. The MUSE Awards are sponsored by AAM's Media and Technology Committee. This year's judging included museums in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. A complete list of judging criteria and MUSE Award winners can be found on the Media and Technology Web site at www.mediaandtechnology.org. Eastman House has previously earned the 2008 "Online Marketer of the Year" award from the American Marketing Association, Rochester Chapter, of which the podcasts were a component.
