Ballston Spa, N.Y.  - The 14th Annual Irish 2000 Festival at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds brings together some of the greatest Celtic performers in the world on Sept. 17 and 18 at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds.  Among the more than 20 acts scheduled are Great Big Sea, John McDermott, Enter the Haggis, Gaelic Storm and Seven Nations.

"This year's lineup is truly extraordinary," said Matt Nelligan, the festival's director of marketing and entertainment. "We're delighted to be able to present such exceptional performers," he said, noting that Irish 2000 is rated among the top 5 Irish festivals in the United States.  On Friday, Sept. 17, the entertainment is from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and features the Mighty Ploughboys, The Screaming Orphans, Gaelic Storm, Enter the Haggis and Flatfoot 56. On Saturday, Sept. 18, the festival has three stages and non-stop music from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • On the Contemporary Stage: The Mighty Ploughboys, Scythian, The Young Dubliners, The Screaming Orphans, Flatfoot 56, Seven Nations and Great Big Sea.
  • On the Traditional Stage: The McKrells, Hair of the Dog, Lunasa, the Barra MacNeils and John McDermott.
  • On the Pub Stage: Road to Galway, Frank Jaklitsch & Friends, Kevin McKrell, Causeway Giants, Fighting 86's, Emish, Flynn 529 and The Ruffians.
In addition, the festival features a Dance Stage with lessons and performances by schools of Irish dance, Celtic Kids Area with rides and games, as well as more than 100 food and craft vendors. Tickets for Friday only are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Tickets for Saturday only are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Children under the age of 10 are admitted free.  A two-day pass is $25, available through Sept. 1 with advance sales ONLY. There is a $2 parking fee. Since its inception, the festival has donated more than $350,000 to a variety of charities. This year's beneficiaries are Community Hospice (Capital Region)and the Father Henry Tansey Scholarship Fund at Siena College.  
The Fairgrounds are located 30 miles north of Albany, off Interstate 87 (Adirondack Northway), in Ballston Spa.

Northway north to Exit 12. At end of ramp, follow signs to Route 67 West. At intersection of Routes 67 and 50, go straight across Route 50 onto Ballston Avenue. At T-intersection, turn right and then take an immediate left onto Fairground Avenue. Fairgrounds at top of hill.

Northway north to Exit 12. At end of ramp follow signs to Route 67 West.  Turn right onto Route 50.  In Village of Ballston Spa turn left at light at Getty gas station.  Fairgrounds at top of hill.
  • From the North.
Northway south to Exit 13S. Turn right at first light onto Malta Avenue. Continue on Malta Avenue to light. Turn left at light onto Route 50. Turn right onto Front Street. Bear right onto Fairground Avenue. Fairgrounds are at top of hill.
  • From Amsterdam.
Go east on Route 67. Left onto Middleline Road. Right onto County Farm Road. Right at stop sign onto Fairground Avenue. Follow to the Fairgrounds.
  • From Schenectady.
North on Route 50. In the Village of Ballston Spa, turn left at light at Front Street. Bear right onto Fairgound Avenue. Fairgrounds at top of hill.
