hammondsport.JPG Hammondsport, N.Y. - On Friday afternoon, Sept. 23, Hammondsport had claimed the No. 5 spot in Budget Travel's "Coolest Small Town 2012" contest. Budget Travel is asking people to nominate "cool" towns with populations under 10,000. Hovering right around 800 people, Hammondsport certainly fits the bill. To vote, visit http://www.budgettravel.com/contest/coolest-small-towns-2012-nominations,8/ and give Hammondsport a "thumbs up." To be nominated for this competition, towns must have "that indescribable ‘something'," according to the tourism-promoting site. "In other words, cool doesn't necessarily mean quaint: We want towns with an edge and a heart." "Hammondsport has such a unique atmosphere - it's more a vibe, really," said Peggy Coleman, president of the Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau. "The Village Square has so many cool shops and restaurants, the Lake is invitingly cool on a hot summer day.  There is something so inviting to this town and it is great that Budget Travel is recognizing it, too.  Help us make Hammondsport #1 and vote often!" Voting is permitted every 24 hours, so remember to return and vote again. Leave a comment along with so many others who think Hammondsport is "the nicest little village," "my favorite place on earth," "absolutely charming," and "something out of a Normal Rockwell painting." And there are those who flat-out think it "ROCKS!" Cast your vote and make sure other people recognize it, too. http://www.budgettravel.com/contest/coolest-small-towns-2012-nominations,8/ The Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau was established in 1994. As Steuben County's official tourism marketing agency, our mission is to aggressively promote the visitor industry year-round and thereby stimulate economic growth.
