Harborfest to Bring Back Popular East Park Venue
Oct 05, 2009 by I Love New York Staff
Oswego, NY – Harborfest officials have announced the return of East Park as a venue for Harborfest 2010. “We had a great deal of reaction from the community and festival goers about the absence of East Park this past year,” said Tom Van Schaack, Executive Director of Harborfest. “East Park allows us to be a more diverse festival from an entertainment and programming standpoint. It was obvious that people missed East Park this past year and we are happy to be able to bring it back.” Plans for East Park are still in the works, but one thing is for sure, the Jazz and Blues Stage that has been a constant at the venue will return in 2010. Also being discussed is a brand new “Made in New York” area featuring products produced in New York State, similar to the popular Pride of New York area that used to be featured in East Park but moved to Breitbeck Park in 2009 where it will remain for 2010. “By popular demand we are bringing East Park back into the mix,” said Harborfest Board President John Scardella. “Last year we listened when the consensus was to bring the harbor back to Harborfest with the appearance of the Tall Ship US Brig Niagara. This year people missed East Park so we are happy to be able to restore this wonderful park.” Also in the works on the east side of Oswego for Harborfest 2010 is the return of the Family Park at Fort Ontario and the Juried Arts and Crafts site at Riverwalk East. Applications are now being accepted from performers who wish to be considered for Harborfest 2010. The festival seeks performers of all genre type. Harborfest has traditionally been an eclectic undertaking providing an opportunity to showcase a wide diversity of musical performers and types. Applications are available at the Harborfest offices on Lake Street in Oswego or by visiting the Harborfest web site at www.oswegoharborfest.com. Deadline for applications is January 8, 2010. Harborfest 2010 is scheduled for July 22-25.
