Nichols, N.Y. – The Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, N.Y., part of the Haunted History Trail of New York State, has been named USA TODAY 10Best’s #1 Best Haunted Hotel, leveling up from its second-place win in 2019. Selected by travel experts, the contest pulls together the top 20 nominees in its category nationwide, then polls readers to determine the best of the best each year.

The Fainting Goat Island Inn is known for frequent supernatural occurrences, ranging from sightings of moving objects and eyes looking back from mirrors to sheets pulled off the bed in the middle of the night and the sound of voices. The Inn has been featured on the Travel Channel’s Paranormal Hotel and the livestream paranormal investigation series Scared and Alone. Guests can stay overnight in the haunted Inn or embark on ghost hunts and haunted tours when available.

“Our Trail encourages thrill-seekers and curious visitors to embark on paranormal journeys throughout New York State, and we’re thrilled to have one of our stops voted as a top destination in the nation,” says Kelly Rapone, administrator of the Haunted History Trail. “The Fainting Goat possesses the charm and comfort you’d expect of an Inn, with an intriguing history that pulls guests further into its mystique. We can’t wait for visitors to experience all that the Inn has to offer!”

The Haunted History Trail is home to more than 80 authentically haunted locations across New York State. Experiences include historical tours, opportunities to “dine with the spirits,” psychic and medium readings, ghost hunts, overnight stays and more. The Trail is also home to the largest collection of haunted and Halloween events statewide, with nearly 500 events that range from guided ghost walks and themed Halloween parks to historical haunted tours and paranormal investigations.
