HOWES CAVE, N.Y. -- As budgets tighten for field trips, Howe Caverns is introducing a new fundraising program designed to help school groups make their trip to this underground world more affordable than ever. Howe Caverns’ “Fudge Fundraiser” offers school groups the opportunity to sell Howe Caverns’ famous homemade fudge to help cover the cost of their trip to the Cave. “It’s a very easy program,” said General Manager Robert Holt. “The kids solicit fudge sales. For each half pound or full pound of fudge sold, they earn funds toward their trip to Howe Caverns. The group leader then sends the order to Howe Caverns and the group picks up the order when they arrive here for their visit,” he said. With youth group prices starting at about $7 per person, “Each pound of fudge sold equals an almost-free admission ticket for one of the students,” Mr. Holt said. The fundraising fudge is available in three flavors: Chocolate, vanilla and peanut butter. Howe Caverns is New York State’s second most-visited natural attraction, located about 45 minutes southwest of Albany, off Exit 22 of I-88, between Albany and Cooperstown. Open daily, except Thanksgiving and Christmas days when it is closed, Howe Caverns’ winter hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
